AT&T Series2 pausing during record

Lately when I press record my AT&T Series 2 TIVO will start recording and then within a few seconds it freezes (it seemingly pauses). The same image remains on the screen. No buttons on the remote unfreeze it. I have to stop recording and select another channel. The new channel works correctly. I then go back to the original show and press record and it records correctly without pausing.

This happens most every day.

I've had my TIVO for about 5 years.
