When I returned from vacation on December 28th I found that my TIVO HD had quit working after 367 days. When I turned on the TV all I got was a grey screen. I tried to power cycle the TIVO by uplugging the power and starting it up again. The TIVO would never go any further than the Powering Up screen. Of course the warranty ran out 2 days earlier but I was told by my cable company that TIVO had completed a FIRMWARE update on December 28th that may have been the reason it made my unit malfunction. I was charged to replace my TIVO plus new installation of the Cable Cards. MY question: Did anyone else experience the same problems or issues on or close to December 28th?

We all got a Software update to V11, TiVo, to my knowledge does not do FIRMWARE updates, (Firmware would contain information on a chip mounted on the motherboard, if it was updated we would never know as the system information screen does not give out any Firmware version). TiVo Software is on the hard drive. Some people did report problems with this software update to V11.

Do you have an external drive. Mine failed and my TiVo wouldn't start up. Once I disconnected the external drive it worked fine. Luckliy my DVD Expander was still under warranty. Unfortunately I lost all of my recordings.

I had the same problem... unfortunately... my Expander was 5 days out of warranty!
Although, mine still "Gray screens" about 2-3 times a week, until I do a soft reboot.

It might take a little more effort, calling them, etc., but I'd get in touch with them and see what they can do for you.

Are you going by your purchase date, or did you go onto the web site and put your s/n in and see what it said? I know mine showed the warranty expired about 2 months longer than basing it on when I bought. I think they do some estimation based on the manufacture date.
Mine was in warranty. I gave them a CC number for pre-ship, they don't charge the card unless they fail to get the old unit back. $6 for UPS to return the old one and that was it. Excellent service from WD.
