background:
I tried tivo desktop pro 2.6.1 for video subscription (of the non-tivocast rss type). very unreliable, only worked once and never again. mp3 worked well, but even typical video sharing was unreliable... so... i've since deleted TD pro, and have been using pyTivo for video and (now) i'm using audiofaucet for mp3s. Now I find that I'd like to round this out with the 3rd piece - video subscription...

question:
What's the best way to subscribe to video feeds like TED talks on the Tivo?
I know at some point they were working on this feature for pyTivo (anyone know if it got worked out?). I'd be happy running something else though if it just works... I guess pyTivo would be preferable though.

thanks for any suggestions...

I use Miro to get video feeds. Coupled with 2.62, I have relatively few problems doing auto-transfer of files.

Miro downloads to a folder. TDP watches folder and then sends to Tivo.

Most of the time it's almost flawless.

It works in pyTivo... not the most reliable feature, but anyway... just make sure your user name and password are set up, and you can subscribe from within the "Video on Demand" menu.

I use iTunes, mostly because I have an iPod and subscribe to some SD video and audio podcasts and load them on it.
I link the relevant folders in my iTunes Library to my TiVo folder, then they show in the NPL for transfer. I use TD+ as the server, but it could work with PyTivo I suppose.

I'm using miro with pytivo. It works nicely for what it is, but I want a better way. more akin to the rss subscriptions managed by the tivo box and TD pro (which I can't get to work).

I don't like the miro/pytivo method very much because there is no subscription or management of the videos, you have to remember what video to watch next, and the interface for scrolling through videos on the tivo is a little slow as well, so it's a pain to use...

This is important, because, at least with TED talks, there are like 300 of them, and I keep forgetting where I am in the bunch... If the tivo just "grabbed" the next one as I finish watching them, it'd be ideal...

hmm, ok, I didn't know it supported that yet, I need to go try it right away then! cool. this is exactly what i want. pytivo to support rss feeds from the video on demand...

wmcbrine... what version of pytivo do I need to try? do I need the git version, or can I get one of the installers?
