Hello,
I have a Direct TV DVR and a Direct TV TIVO receiver(DVR-80, older, but still love it). I hate the DVR receiver and was going to deactivate it and give it back to them. If I deactivate it and take off the DVR service that was added will my TIVO still work like normal, or will it just work like a single line receiver?
I am going to cancel my service in August 2009 when it is up and just want to cut my costs as much as possible. I had enough when I wanted to upgrade to an HD receiver and they told me I had to pay $500 for it since I would not sign a new 24 month contract.

Appreciate any info.

I do NOT believe they'll let you remove DVR service if you actually have ANY DVR's activated on your account, so you might still have to pay the $6 DVR fee if you plan on still using the old Tivo.

It would cost you far less than $500 to sign the 24month service deal, cancel it in august 2009, and pay the prorated cost for early termination.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they can't deactivate just the DVR part of your account (I think I asked them about that when I was getting set up and already owned a DVR).

BUT, you might want to try the "I think I'm going to cancel my account" ploy and see what they do. They gave me 6 months free DVR service.
