It occurred to me watching Joe Mantegna tonight that not only do I not miss Mandy Patinkin the least bit, I had forgotten he was ever on the show.

I haven't watched this episode yet, but I couldn't agree with you more. Funny, too, because I LOVE Mandy Patinkin.

Joe Mantegna does a great job.

Yeah he's pretty good. AJ Cook needs to hurry up and pop out that little turd so I can see her on TV again.

How is this show going now?

I watched the season 1 of the show, I like it very much.

But because of hard work, I missed it.

I will watch it again.

For a while it devolved into cheap horror.

Pretty freaky episode. I can tell you without a doubt that they did not do any filming in Orange County Ca. They filmed in Long Beach. As a nearly 30 year resident of OC I have to say I was disapointed.

Isn't Southern California pretty much all the same anyways?

Why didn't my tivo get this. Hunh. and sigh.

I have been netflixing the series and am still in season one. I just put the season pass on it and caught the last few new ones.

I have to go back and look at the sp again.

Yeah, it just happens that Long Beach is still within the range where they dont have to pay the crew from LA more, but if they actually went to Orange County, they would.

This one was pretty freaky and well-done. Not quite on par with the "dead man/woman walking" episode from the first season but getting back to that level.

That's funny. I said the exact same thing to my wife at the end of this episode.

If you get A&E (or AE-HD), they show syndicated repeats of CM on Friday nights. Set up an SP for those, and you can catch up on even more older eps.

Ohhh, are they showing the eps with the original brunette agent lady? I liked her, she was kinda hot and a fine actress. IMDB tells me her name is Lola Glaudini.

I had thought this recently as well. I think I like it better without him.

And, the (seemingly - to me, at least) shorter amount of screen time for Garcia this season is a very good thing. Last season, there was way too much of that character - and I could do without her at all.

So exactly when did the perp kill his family? After the first shooting? Before he saw the first press conference? After he saw the second press conference?

It was before the first press conference for sure and before the BAU was even contacted. I'm thinking it was after the first shooting - perhaps the night he sawed off the shotgun.

I think that you are right, but they sure didn't explain that very well.

I've never lived in California, or spent any significant time there, but when I saw the Queen Mary, even I knew it was Long Beach.

I thought it was when he told them that he was the killer and they laughed at him.

I probably missed the explanation, but why was he carrying around the shotgun in the gift box? Was he going to shoot up the wife's promotion party before he came across the real estate agent that cut him off?

I came here looking for the answer to that same question.

No, I'm pretty sure he was just imagining all of that. At that point, the family had been dead a number of days.

Graymalkin

It had to be after the first killing and he showed up at his wife's promotion party and was amiable and gregarious, and then he surprised her in bed. That didn't seem imagined. After that, he went and sawed off the shotgun and did the deed to his family.

Yeah, I think that's possible too, but I'm going with the theory that he was going to shoot up the party and thus the gun was in the gift. After he killed the woman, he was calm and collected and simply attended/enjoyed the party and his wife noticed something was different about him. It showed him getting up from bed after she commented about it and I think that is when he did it. The scenes of him shooting at the end looked like they were all in bed when it happened so that thought seems to fit.

I was also confused about this myself. They did a really good job of making his reality undistinguishable from actual reality except when they really wanted you to notice (the warping effect).

I think this is correct, because when the BAU entered the house, the decomp was enough they could smell it instantly, meaning they'd have had to have been dead for at least about a day or so for it to be that bad. Also, they showed everyone was dead in their own bed. Unless he had actually forced them into the bedrooms and down onto their beds before shooting them, it's much more likely he killed them while they were asleep.

I really don't understand why some critics absolutely loathe this show and consider it utter crap. But then, they're the same ones who have never mentioned NCIS, which is amazingly enough even more popular in its sixth season than it's ever been.

I like NCIS, but I cant watch it because of the cinematography. It looks as if everything on the screen is glowing so I keep wiping my eyes and cleaning my glasses.

The problem I had with the sequence is that gunshots are LOUD, and I don't see the daughters not being awakened by the noise.

Yeah, it was odd that it appeared his daughters were still asleep when he went into their rooms. Not the greatest continuity....

Thanks, I do have it set for that night, and I thought it was set for the new episodes. I got the one with Paul Michael Glaser on it. It just missed 12/17. I have been netflixing the series also so that has been fun. I have figured out I can't watch them right before bed though. :o

Or, what happened to Gideon and why he is gone? I recognize the new guy (well new to me) as a cop from an episode in the first season. Do they acknowledge that?

Joe Mantegna was the father in Joan of Arcadia among other things, but imdb.com does not list a credit for him in Criminal Minds before he replaced Mandy Patinkin.

In real life, Patinkin had another of his "I've had enough, I'm leaving" moments. On the show he went through a number of tough cases, including having his girlfreind killed by a serial killer he was pursuing, and basically broke down. He walked away from it all and took off.

Kind of an lol moment - when I hit "post" and it went back to the thread, you had, in the meantime, changed your avitar and I thought there were other posts while I was typing - then I figured out it was your avitar change that messed with my head! :)

Just "kinda" hot? I thought she was a major reason to watch the show.

I think Elle left after having killed someone. She was shot in her own house and came back to work too early. If I remember correctly, she just kinda lost it when the bad guy was verbally taunting her. I can't remember if he was armed or not. It wasn't a clean shoot, but there weren't any witnesses so she got away with it, but her superiors kind of suspected.

According to Wikipedia, Lola was unhappy in LA and wanted to return to New York.

Yeah I was thinking about this too. I really thought the show would suffer without Mandy, but it has not suffered at all. I think part of it is that after the abrupt intro they had Joe's character take a step back as it got integrated into the show.

She left because her and her bangs were making me nauseous on a weekly basis.

I was so glad when she left, I did not like her at all on the show.
