Error when stopping Tivo Server

Whenever I try to pause, exit or restart Tivo Server the following error window appears:

Tivo Server Error
This operation returned because the timeout period expired.

When I click OK the tivo server exits and I can restart it. All the Tivo Desktop Plus features work normally except auto transfers do not work.

Any idea what could be causing this error?

I and some others have had this problem as well. It just started recently for me and have not yet figured out what is causing it. I'm about to run a repair on XP for other problems..maybe this will correct this error as well. If not, I'll reinstall TiVo desktop and see if that works.

I've been having the same problem. Here are some of the things that I've done that at least gets the auto-transfer started. I also just re-did my box that I use as the TiVo server. Put 64bit Vista Ultima and it still didn't help with this situation.

1) Turn off the auto transfer for that group. Restart (even with the error) and then turn the auto transfer back on.

2) Pause or stop Tivo Desktop Plus and then edit those entries out of the wspc.xml file. Then restart everything. Unless you're understand markup languages like SGML, HTML, or XML, don't attempt this.


3) move the files out of the watched folder. Stop and restart Tivo desktop. Then move them back into the watch folder. In essence, this is the same thing as doing an edit to the xml file as explained in #2.

It took me a while to get around to finishing, but here's my report.

A repair on XP didn't correct the problem. I was going to run a complete reinstall due to a few other problems, but they were ironed out individually. Hoorah for no reinstall. :)

I just removed and reinstalled the Tivo desktop software and still get the message when I try to restart the server by issuing tivoserver /stop and tivoserver /start. I don't get the message if I stop and restart the server through the tray app.
