Robert Carlyle (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001015/)! A little more upscale than I had anticipated. Gives me a wee bit more hope for this show...

A little surprising; I thought the whole point of a new spin-off was keep hiring new, cheaper actors? Carlyle has to cost at least as much as any of the current Atlantis cast...?

I just hope he's on long-term, not just in there for show until he gets killed off a few episodes in (as has been known to happen)...

They'll probably give him a stupid hairdo that'll distract me for the whole series. :)

That could be interesting. Let's hope they let him be Scottish and not put on a fake American accent.

They were looking for one known actor, I think the rest of the cast is supposed to be unknowns.

Described as edgier and younger in tone than the two previous series....

Is the Stargate franchise really worth another series? They're milking that cow bone dry.

Not to be a thread crapper or anything. It just seems as if the series has a relatively small but rabid fan following.

It is if they can come up with good storylines.

i guess 24 wasnt enough for him..now he's going across the universe! I just hope they dont recycle old stories. I'm so tired of that on atlantis

Is it me or does this make me think: "Copy of <Star Trek: Voyager>"?

That's been said before (many times), but that seems to me like saying Star Trek: Voyager is a copy of Lost in Space. The premise is pretty distinct, and what really matters is what they do with it.

Now, Stargate doesn't have a long and storied tradition of originality, but I'm willing to wait and see what they do before I criticize them for it!

The only thing I remember him in was the Hitler TV movie. He was the best actor in the whole movie. He was playing Hitler so he had to be but it still could have been a much worse movie with someone who was chewing on the scenery.

So "The World Is Not Enough" star has to go out and see the "Universe."

I just hope that Carlyle sticks around long enough for us to get to know his character. I wish the show all the best when it starts in ...July 2009 (?).

Saw him recently in 24 redemption. That's the only reason I recognized him.

The two things I've seen Carlyle in, the Hitler movie, and 24:Redemption, I was fairly impressed. He played an excellent Hitler. (Ummm...Hitler wasn't excellent, Carlyle's portrayal of Hitler was excellent! :D)

I've tried to get in to the varies iterations of Stargate, but I've never been able to get beyond the movie that started it all....still one of my favorites. Of course, I've always loved Kurt Russell....

And James Spader! The reason I was never really able to get into Michael Shanks, who always struck me as a second- or third-rate Spader clone.

I just got the movie on Blu-ray, so I'm looking forward to watching it again for the first time in way too long!
