So I have decided to part ways with Directv and I have a Hughes DVR80 and I am wondering what to do with my dvr. I have some shows on it still that I want to watch, but haven't had time. I think that I can still watch the shows on the dvr even after I cancel Directv, but what to do with it after I watch all the crap that is on it?

Look at past sales history in eBay. It's not worth much.

The 40GB hard drive might be worth more. :)

So it not worth much, any use for it other than a dust collector or target practice?

$20-$30 to someone who really wants one. Were you expecting it to appreciate in value?

Let us know what uses you find for it. I'll have a couple of them ready to trash pretty soon.

If your DVR80 was working fine, I may be interested in purchasing. I'm having trouble with my DVR40, don't have HD yet...and no plans to upgrade in the immediate future.

Let me know.

For years this forum has had a policy against buying and selling TiVo's and directv Tivos hence no response.

Are you possibly dumping DTivo?

hey guys... i will soon be moving into a house with direct tv-- no internet or phone. i will be adding broadband. what is my best option for a standard def DVR? i would love a dtivo but it's looking as if even a hacked unit would still have problems without a phone line. i could live with a non-tivo DVR, but do the newer non-tivo units support ethernet or wireless without a phone line? and which would be the least expensive route?

thanks a ton!

A phone line connection is only needed once - during the initial setup. After that, a hacked DirecTivo doesn't need to be connected to a phone. Without a phone connection, you won't be able to order PPV thru the Tivo, but you can still order them online. Without a phone connection, you'll also loose the ability to update the Tivo software - which isn't a big deal as most prefer version 6.2 or 6.2a (released in 2006) that has the Multiroom Viewing function so you can easily move shows between DirecTivo's.

I unplugged my phone 160-days ago; after 6.4a I got fed up with the "upgrades." Sure wish I had unplugged my TiVo's before that version and still had 6.2a...
