tivo remote won't work with dell tv's input function

I have a 32 inch dell lcd tv. The tivo remote can control everything except the input. When I press the input of tivo the input menu was displayed. But I can't choose any other inputs of my dell tv. Please help.

That is just the way it is with some sets.

You need to keep the TV remote around, or use a universal for both.

With my LG TV, if you push the "input" button once, the input menu comes up. If you push it again, the TV will switch to the next "live" input (I have my Tivo on the HDMI input and the DVD player on the composite). If your Dell works this way and you only have one "live" input then it would seem as though the input button isn't working, but your TV is being clever in preventing you from accessing an "unused" input.
