Could have been worse. A lot of these sequel specials are really, really, bad (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0828465/). This is at least watchable.

This is a sequel to the 1974 "The Year Without a Santa Claus". This is a mostly forgettable Rankin-Bass special where Santa wants to take the year off again. (Too much snow? No. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0058536/) Someone wrote a nasty letter? No. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0208654/) He has a cold? No. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0072424/)) The one unforgettable part of the original was Heat Miser and Snow Miser's routines.

34 years later, they get their own special. First, the good parts. They did really get the Animagic animated dolls down -- the style is identical to the original. Mickey Rooney reprises his role as Santa and George S. Irving returns as Heat Miser. They do a new version of the Snow Miser and Heat Miser songs that were pretty good. Irving is amazing, he sounds just like he did back in 1974.

The bad: The incomparable Dick Shawn (the original Snow Miser) is long gone, replaced here by Juan Chioran. The new songs for the special are really lame, and the new villain, North Wind blows. :D

That's a remake, not a sequel.

My kids and I really enjoyed the show! I like the new musical routine, and I agree, the animation was fantastic. And it looked GREAT in HD! I didn't care for Mrs. Claus -- she was taller and thinner than the Mrs. C in the original. But overall, much better than many Christmas "Sequels" -- although they retconned in a bunch of miser siblings. :)

That's a remake, not a sequel.Touche. Okay, this one is (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106973/) -- and also a John Goodman vehicle.

What channel was this on, and does anybody know if it'll be repeated? Even if it's awful, I will probably have to watch it.. Heat Miser!

Man you people have a memory, you remember a 1974 Xmas special and can even say the characters and stuff were just like in 1974 or not, wow. You even know the actors names as well? You all ought to apply to be on TV quiz shows. I'd be lucky to faintly recall last years holiday specials but no details even then.

It doesn't hurt that the original "Year with a Santa Claus" aired directly before this special ;)

Yeah - I am such a dork that I have the Intro to the Heat Miser song as my ringtone this time of year. It is one of the few (Charlie Brown and Christmas Vacation) Christmas specials I must see every year. I'm glad they are airing it again....

Well, yeah. I remember "A Charlie Brown Christmas" pretty well, but that's because I saw it last night, not because I remember it from 1965. And IMDB is good for looking up acting credits.

UGH UGH UGH. Just watched this while cleaning out my saved Christmas specials. While the animation was "pretty", my daughter and I thought this was the worst sequel ever made. Even worse than the Frosty sequels, and they were pretty bad.

Heat Miser was almost normal, but they made Snow Miser an awful character.
