View Full Version : Survivor delayed tonight

Bear in mind that Survivor will be delayed tonight because of the inability of those idiots at CBS to figure out how to schedule a football game.
I'm not sure what they'll do on the West Coast, since the third hour is supposed to be live...

Since "live" shows are almost always tape delayed, I doubt it would be delayed enough to affect our airing. Of course, football games really are live so if the game somehow lasted 6 hours it would still be on here as well.

How many weeks has this been going on? Hopefully, most people have learned to pad the shows that follow football. :)
I do agree that CBS needs to just schedule each game for 4 or so hours.

*GASP* CBS Sunday night coverage is delayed because of football?
I'm with the others, this is just dumb, schedule the games longer, and build in a fudge-factor show somewhere. All the other networks have gotten to the point of having a handle on this and then joining a disposable program in progress after sports, CBS just persists in this Sunday night mess year after year.

Most people had the Steelers/Ravens game at 4 EST - all these markets are running about 30 minutes behind schedule.

Raiders/Patriots also ran long (although the game was basically over before the end of the first quarter: Pats set an NFL record by scoring 4 TDs on their first 4 drives).

It's been years since I've watched a CBS Sunday night show, for that exact reason (shame about Cold Case, but I refuse to put up with that crap even for a good show). For some reason, I don't recall this coming up before with Survivor--is this the first time they've had a season finale during football season? Or have I just repressed the bad memories?

I have taken to padding anything on Sunday night by 3 hours. :o

I guess there's one good thing about living on the West Coast. I don't think I've ever worried about Sunday night scheduling.

My wife & I were just saying this same thing. We couldn't ever recall having a problem with the beeg Sunday Night Survival Finale. Maybe it's never been on a CBS doubleheader day before?
IAC, I don't remember a Survivor Finale that wasn't right on the timing marks. Which of course means the winner is announced in the Reunion Hour.

Meant to add . . .
This also screws up my anal-obsessive show-watching timing. Being deathly allergic to commercials, I figure out how many minutes of spam there will be by the two hour mark, and delay my watching. A good night has the TiVo going live as Jeff makes his way back to LA. :D
Now I gotta waste time doing crap like this post . . .:p

Thanks Rob, you rock. I didn't know. So I was able to pad out the reunion in time.

with a double header on cbs i was prepared and padded a couple shows after survivor.
The only problem was that at 10 pm central when the news is supposed to come on the local CBS channel switched to SD instead of leaving it on HD for the last 30 minutes of survivor.

Being a TAR fan (in addition to Survivor), you get use to it and pad.

I was actually surprised they had a late game yesterday simply because of the "live" reunion show. When I noticed it, I went and padded the reunion show by an hour. Plenty of extra time for the whole thing.

My initial reaction to these types of threads is to roll my eyes and ask myself, "Is another of these threads really necessary?".
Then there's always someone who posts, "Thanks - I didn't know." Oh well. A righteous PSA then.
I seem to recall, though I can't cite years/seasons/whatever, but I really do believe this HAS happened in the past. Just about any time Survivor is on the fall schedule, this happens. At least in my neck of the woods. Even when CBS doesn't have the double-header that week, in our market the CBS game tends to be the late game - problably because the Vikings tend to be broadcast at noon.
As for CBS EVER doing anything about programming around football, forget it. They will NEVER mess with 60 Minutes, other than showing it delayed due to the football overrun. It seems they wouldn't even entertain the idea of moving it to 8 p.m. ET during the NFL season for probably at least two reasons - it doesn't affect the entire country (as evidenced by the West Coasters that always post "Not Me!" in these types of threads) and I'm guessing they are able to sell much more advertising dollars selling ad time on 60 Minutes even with delays than they could with an extended NFL coverage filler show like FOX does or whatever.
Just ain't gonna happen, therefore we DVRers need to adapt.

I don't watch Live TV and I don't give a crap about football. So I don't ever bother to check if one of my shows needs to be padded.
Heck, this was on a Season Pass, I didn't even intend to look at the Guide Data. So if Rob hadn't said anything I would have missed it.
The nice thing about DVRs and TiVO is that we don't have to watch live TV, but unfortunately, we are still sometimes victims to it.

Well I didn't know, but I also didn't worry, as long as I got enough to find out who won, it was enough!

I can't believe you actually posted this, seeing as how it's a Thursday show that's only shown on Sunday nights for the finale. I had to remind several friends yesterday that it would most likely be delayed 30-45 minutes. And I only knew to do this because I regularly record The Unit on Sunday nights.
What a goober.:p
:D
Rob, thanks for reminding people about this. You're a good man. Ok, that might have been pushing it a bit. :p
