Hi, as of Dec 3rd, I can now longer transfer programs from my Tivo series 2 to my mac. All the programs recorded since Dec 3rd show up in the Tivo Transfer for Popcorn with a circle with a line through them (i.e. can't transfer them) The programs before the update I can still transfer.

Help!

It hasn't ever happened to me, but I have seen a few posts where the cable box locked up and started sending everything out with Macrovision copy protection. Try unplugging everything including the TiVo for about 30 seconds to force a cold reboot.

I've tried everything...powerdown, eetc etc

This still isn't resolved. All my things recorded as of Dec 3rd have the copy protected circle with a line through them...

Any other words of advice?

Do other tools also have the same problem?

The red circle with the line through them indicate that the copy protection flag is set. It's not normally a Toast/Popcorn issue at all -- in fact, if you use the unsupported browser interface to the TiVo you should see the same thing (https:// followed by the TiVo box's IP address and use tivo for the user name and your 10 digit Media Access Key as the password)

Is your Series 2 connected to a cable box? Or is it getting programming from analog cable or an antenna?

Is this happening on all channels or only recordings from premium channels like HBO, Showtime, CineMax, TMC, etc.?

Ahh, then your cable company may have errneously changed all channels to be copy protected. They are not allowed to do that for off-air channels (like cbs, nbc, etc)... Try recording something off those stations and see if you still get the same issue..

The reason I asked about other programs is because it sounded like these were shows you had taped before, and were working fine until dec .3.. so I figured a bug, and was trying to know if it's on the tivo or the popcorn side.

If the shows are new then it's certainly possible that your cable provider recently turned on copy-protection for those channels. To see what the tivo claims, connect to

https://<tivoip>/

(username: tivo, password: <MAK>)

It should list your shows, and either give you the option of 'download MPEG-PS' or 'Protected'...

I checked the nowplaying\index.html page and they show up as "Protected"

I also unplugged the box and left it unpluged for hours and it didn't do any good. They still say Protected.

Any other ideas? I'm happy to do a full reset of the Tivo 2 and erase everything on it. This Tivo is only used to transfer shows to my iphone so I'm stuck!

However, you didn't indicate if this is coming from a direct analog cable feed, antenna, cable box, or satellite receiver. And whether this is happening on all channels or only some channels. Could you please let us know this information?

I've got the Tivo connected to a DishNetwork Receiver ...does that have copy protection?

FYI, I also tried recording on NBC and thats got the copy protection on there too.

There's a copy protection flag that can be set as well as Macrovision encoding that can be enabled by the provider. The set-top boxes can pass this over and the TiVo (being a party to the agreement with Macrovision and such) needs to observe it. I believe with set-top boxes, the copy protection flag doesn't come through a composite video (or s-video) connection -- but the Macrovision stuff will

Have you tried power cycling your satellite receiver?

Hey! that did the trick! Rebooted the sat receiver and bingo...not copy protected!
