I'm confused. When I purchased the Tivo, they said I could transfer tv programs from my Tivo to my computer. I just downloaded Tivo Desktop for Mac, but it only seems to have picture & music stuff.

I've got a wireless network that Tivo uses to update, but I have an almost full Tivo and need to download some shows. Eventually I want to transfer them back to the Tivo so I can watch them in the living room instead of in the office.

Do I need something called Toast (what is that anyway?) or can I do what I want with no additional software?
Thanks to any helpful person who responds

You can access and transfer your programs directly through your browser since you are networked. Just go to https://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/nowplaying/index.html where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the ip address of your TiVo unit.

You'll be prompted for your username and password. The username is always 'tivo' (no quotes) and the password is your Tivo Media Access Key. If you don't have your Media Access Key you can get it by logging onto your tivo account at tivo.com

That will allow you to download and store the .tivo files for archiving. There are other threads on the site that talk about how to view them without having to purchase Toast.

And hold down the apple/command key when you click on the TiVo Desktop preference pane to reveal the hidden "Video" tab -- which you can use to have the .tivo files on your computer appear on the TiVo (at the bottom of the Now Playing list)

Where do I find the IP address of my tivo?

Where do I find the IP address of my tivo?

On the Phone & Network settings screen

ok, I found my key, my IP, it seems like I've got everything. BUT when I try to go to xxxx.xx.xxx.xxx.nowplaying.index.html, I get an error "resource not found" If I don't use the "nowplaying" in the url, I get a "Tivo Congratulations you've successfully connected your tivo to your home network, enabling..." but there are no links on that page (except back to tivo.com) so it doesn't appear I can do anything from here. Any other suggestions?

And thank you both for trying to help a tivo novice!

Never mind, I just realized I didn't have the 's' at the end of http. I found my list. One more question. Once I download to my mac, is the process the same to transfer back to the tivo?

Thanks again.

Enable the video tab in TiVo Desktop for Mac OSX as I mentioned earlier. One option you'll have on the video tab is the path where the .tivo files go. You'll also need to put in your Media Access Key there. The TiVo will then see (at the bottom of the Now Playing List) an entry for your Macintosh along with any .tivo and MPEG-2 files you place in that directory.
