I am at the crossroads of what to do for my media center. I have been a dish sub for the last 5 years and I have come to love the dvr it has for the functionality and micro managment of functions.....then I moved and got comcast. So its cheaper but I find the dvr to be too dumbed down and basically retarded.
I decided to build a DVR out of a pc I have, so far I can get the guide and record but not the pay stations....I understand that TiVo can get a card from comcast to operate with but can I get a reader for my pc?
I would like to run the pc but I might just roll with a TiVo HD duel tuner box.......I am open to any thoughts.

According to what I have seen, CableLabs requires that a complete
PC be tested/reviewed before certifying it as CableCard ready.
That seems to mean you would have to purchase a prebuilt PC
with that certification versus adding a CableCard reader onto your
present PC.

I think Steve is correct; CableCARD is not considered an adjunct, but rather an integral part of the device.

OIC....well with that in mind, what are the options for building instead of buying?

This isn't the forum for that.
