My DVR80 has not made a successful call since 11-14. It fails at the first step with the message "Failed. Busy calling DirecTv". Running 6.4a. Should I care? Hard wired conventional phone line - nothing special. It has worked for years prior to this.

Any chance that you have DSL high speed internet?
If so, you need to have a DSL filter on the line to the DVR80.

Thanks, Jim but it's an ordinary jack. It never gets to the dialing stage. It's as if the TiVo always thinks it's already trying to dial. Weird.

You probably don't need to care. You already have the latest software.

I would choose a different phone number for the unit to dial. We had a similar problem when the 815 area code in my area changed and even though I was already in 815 I had to set the unit to dial 1 + the area code + the number. This cured my problem and I was getting an error similar to the one you are getting. If you are not sure, just change it to a different area code, change your dialing options and it should work fine.

Phone number is right and the only one available toll-free. Dialing details also correct. When it is in the preparing phase it fails with the message that it is already busy calling DIRECTV (P16). I also notice that the light to the right of the green power light on the front of the unit (labeled REC) is red when recording but is otherwise always on amber. I swear it used to be off except when recording. I wonder if a reboot would help.

No harm in trying a reboot. Unplug it for a few minutes and then plug it back in.

But, then the unit's modem could have failed.

Must be a lot of those modems failing. Both of my Series 2 DTivos fail on dialing. I don't really care since I'm using 6.2a with the phone hack that fools it into thinking it made a successful call anyway.

Thanks, guys. If they update software I won't be able to activate it - correct?

Got the message on all 3 of my DTiVos recently that I need to make a call...2 HDVR2s and a Philips 6000.

Changed the dial in number on all 3 and they were all happy.

Unit wouldn't call in and orange light was always on. One night while watching the screen went black (no channels) with error message 722. Called DTV and they did some magic and instantly fixed the problems. Anyone know what happened?

Had the same problem recently. The organge light was on constantly, and the dialing wouldn't complete. I tried changing phone numbers, but that didn't work. Finally rebooted the box, and that fixed the problem (orange light went off and phone call was successful).

Several reboots had no effect on mine.

I have Vonage and it hasn't made a successful call since October. I was hoping they'd fix the bug with it not holding it's place in a recording in the last 5 minutes with a new release, but I guess not. :(
