View Full Version : Tivo HD restarts over and over after v11 update

I have a Tivo HD that has run with no problems. Last night, my Series 3 got the v11 update and I assume the HD did as well.
Now the HD is restarting over and over. It gets through the "a few more minutes", goes black and restarts.
I've tried removing power a few times and tried removing the cablecard -- no luck. I'm guessing it's going to have to go back to Tivo.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,

Is this a stock TivoHD? Or do you have an upgraded TiVo and/or an external drive?
Are you using HDMI? If so, disconnect HDMI and try component (or any other output) and see if that makes a difference. And if your box can boot properly without HDMI connected, are you able to then reconnect HDMI and reboot?
I'm suggesting this because in another thread, someone implied that their v11 installation couldn't complete with their particular HDMI display connected.

It's a stock Tivo HD using component and without an external drive.
Thanks for the feedback.

Unless you want to try Kickstart that may or may not work or you have another TiVo drive with the correct image on it (unlikely) you will have to send the TiVo back. I don't have the Kickstart codes that why i not telling you what to use but i sure someone has them for the series 3 if you want to go that way.

As I suspected, there's no "easy" fix for an issue like this and the Tivo needs to go back for replacement. I assume it is a hard drive issue.
Over the past few years, I have had about 10 hard drives fail in various devices -- usually just after the warranty ran out. At least this time the Tivo is only 11 months old. I was surprised to hear that there is a $49 charge to replace the Tivo after 90 days. The tech rep was kind enough to waive the $49 fee.

I don't know if this will help since my setup is different but I'll share my experience. I received the new system update yesterday and my tivo s3 kept rebooting over and over again. I tried taking out the cable cards and disconnecting the coax cable but nothing helped. I couldn't even get the kickstart 57 to work.
Long story short, I found that if I unpluged the external hard drive the tivo would start up fine and would not reboot over and over again. I ended up disconnecting the external hard drive (which I had initally installed with the old kickstart method), rebooted the tivo, and then repaired the hard drive with the new method through the menu. I ended up losing almost all of my recordings but at least the tivo and the external hard drive both work now.
I have the same issue with 2 of my 3 Tivos - one S3 (no external drive) and one TivoHD (with WD MyDVR extender). According to Tivo they all received a software update last night. I suspect the 3rd one may die when it tries to install the update late tonite. Kickstart doesnt work either. :-(
