I did a search and found this post about a similar problem : http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=318073

But in my case, Im using a once supported Netgear G adapter WG121 (and based on the link posted above, Im looking for a G Tivo adapter on Ebay thats affordable). I say that the 121 was once supported, because it used to be on the "official" list but when I just checked, it isnt any more.

But it used to work just fine. Seems now that when ever I select multiple shows to transfer, the Tivo unit totally locks up. If I select a single show, it seems to reboot after the transfer although I cant prove this since I dont monitor when the transfer is completed, but based on the size of the data transferred, it seems to be complete and viewing it shows a completed show. But I suspect that a "service" upgrade may be partially responsible for the problem, cause again, it used to work totally great.

I was initially on Desktop 2.5.1, but upgraded to 2.6.2, with no change to the problem.

Im tempted to drag ethernet cable through the house to see if this fixes the issue. And since Ive never tried hardwiring it, Im not exactly how Desktop would see it.

Ive also experienced some odd restarts when not doing a transfer....could this be some other type of problem, like a failing hard drive? Box was purchased just over a year ago, in august of 2007 so its just out of warranty.

Where to next?:):)

OK, its gotten worse. Now it locks up during a transfer. But I never get reboots, except when transferring.

Did kickstarts 57, 58, 52, all passed successfully, or at least I think they did because the tivo did boot after each one.

Ordered a Tivo usb network adapter, should have it in a few days. Ill post again when I get it to update the issue.

But I thinking that it might be a hard drive failing. But for a unit just over a year old????

Yes, a hard drive can fail that soon. Sooner even. Sorry that that may be happening to you.

More to the point of your post is that when you switch to using an Ethernet cable instead of the wireless the change is totally transparent to the TiVo. I did exactly that about 2 weeks ago with my DT. It seems a little faster on a transfer now. But best of all, I don't have to rely on a possibly flaky radio connection.

FWIW, there are differences between wireless adaptors. I have 2 of the TiVo supplied ones. Just last night I noted that one of them when connected to a TiVo in a room just below where my PC is was giving me a 30 to 35% connection. It noted on screen that the connection was "marginal." That's the wireless adaptor that I just swapped out for an Ethernet cable. When I put the other one I have in it's place, the connection jumped to 95 - 100%.

Same orientation, same location. Just the different adaptor.

Its fixed, problem was the hard drive. I replaced it with a 320G I got from Newegg using the upgrade instructions at the Weaknees user forum, and can now do multiple show transfers without an error or lockup.

Before replacing the drive, I did try the kickstarts, but no effect, although its pretty cool that someone had this info.

The weaknees instructions worked perfectly, although to transfer the original 80 G of data took over 18 hours, but everything was totally restored, even my seasons.

BTW, I did also add in a tivo branded wireless adapter, but that had no effect on the problem resolution. (Amazon, new - $39 with free shipping!)

Thx to all that had suggestions!
