Before Verizon comes out to install the cablecards in my HDTivo, I want to be sure my HDTivo is working so I connected the output of my set top box to the "cable" input in the HDTivo. I expected one tuner to work but it doesn't for any of the channels. I have a S2 that I do that with and it works fine. I thought something was wrong with it so I exchanged it and my new one does the same thing.
Why can't I take the view the stb output on the HDTivo like I can with the s3? I will eventually be getting cablecards anyway but I just want to know what is going on.

The TivoHD is not like a Series2 TiVo.
The whole point of the TivoHD is to eliminate the need for other equipment (besides CableCards). The TivoHD is a purely self-contained device with a built-in STB and DVR. It will not work in conjunction with any other box. It will not accept input from any other box. The "cable" input on the TivoHD is meant for the direct coax feed from the wall, and will not work with the output from another box.
If you want to confirm your HDTiVo is working, connect the coax from the wall directly to the cable input on the back of the unit, and then run a Channel Scan under Settings -> Channels. Most channels are encrypted, and unavailable without a CableCard, but you can find the HD locals in the QAM 71-73 range. Note you will not see the correct lineup numbers or guide information until the CableCard is installed.
