I know this must have been asked before, but I searched all the forums and couldn't find a direct answer. Hoping you guys would know.

I have one Tivo HD (Living Room) with service and wireless to my AP. Sometimes my daughter wants to watch her Amazon Unbox movies, or shows while I'm using the TV. I thought that I could get another Tivo HD (bedroom) and hook it up wireless, and just transfer those shows she wants to watch to there. There are probably other ways to do this, but someday I might actually want to flip the switch and get service on that Tivo so I don't want to sink funds into a less elegant solution right now.

Can I do this, or do I need service on that second Tivo HD to simply transfer and watch?

You need service on the second Tivo to do just about anything with it. Remember that since you do have the first one, you will qualify for a multi-service discount MSD. $10 monthly, $100 yearly, $300 lifetime.

You would need the tivo service for most anything to do with all tivo boxes, except watch recorded shows and live tv. Amazon policies will not let you transfer from 1 box to another but they would have to be re-transfered to the other box if it was purchased or just re-rented. Alternatively, you can transfer or record the shows you would want to the bedroom set and watch there.
