Hi
I have been having similar problems to several where the tivo would stop and then reboot.
Sooo after reading the different threads and instructions I decided to upgrade my HD to WD10EACS.

Installed into my main computer the Tivo drive and The new HD. Booted into Windows Vista and after starting winmfs could not see either of the two new HD's (yes like a newbe I missed the part about run as Adminstrator.)
And of course winmfs did not see the HD's.

Sooo believing the problem was with Vista (not me) I went to Computer Mgmt and seeing that vista showed them offline I initialize the Tivo Hd believing this would solve the problem. And of course it did not.

Soo I reread the instructions and realize that I needed to run winmfs as Adminstrator.

Now when I run winmfs the correct way. It did find both Hard Drives but now winmfs is reporting that the Tivo drive is not a Tivo drive..

I'm stuck....Now what..

FYI I do not have any backup of the Tivo HD

"Initializing" is another name for deleting everything on a drive.

Basically, you deleted everything on the TiVo drive so there is nothing left to copy. To proceed, you need an TivoHD software image, which you can then restore [with WinMFS] to your new drive and your old.

I was afraid of that.
Do you know where I can get the software to install on to my new HD ??

I sent you a pm about someone who might be able to help you out.

The TiVo software is copyrighted, so it's not supposed to be distributed publicly.

The proper way would be to invest in a copy of Instant Cake. IC will load a fresh TiVo software image on your replacement drive.

Click on any of the ads here for DVRUpgrade to purchase a copy. Check the requirements to make sure you have a computer capable of handling the IC procedure.

If you're using WinMFS, you may be able to save your TiVo drive if you only initialized it for use on Windows and didn't actually partition/format it. When you prepare a drive for Windows, it overwrites part of the boot sector of the drive, making it unbootable in a TiVo, but WinMFS has tools that can undo this. You may want to try that before anything else.
