I'm running into a problem with upgrading my internal TiVo HD drive. It's a stock unit (never used before). I would appreciate any advice.

Here's what I did:

-Removed stock drive from TivoHD

-Attached stock drive and new drive (WD Green 1TB OEM) to my computer via SATA.

-Downloaded and ran WinMFS (latest build 9.3)

-Selected original drive & backed up truncated drive, bootpage, & kernel

-Turned MFS Supersize ON

-Tools / MFS Copy - selected original as source and new as destination

-Copy seems to go fine, asks to expand, select YES, done.

When hooking the drive up to my TivoHD, it boots but then stays at "Almost there. Just a few minutes more..."

I tried hooking up the original drive, and it works fine.

I have no idea what I'm doing wrong (or possibly if the new 1TB drive is bad or something).

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Try copying only a clean image on your new drive, ie. truncated drive, bootpage, & kernel. After copying truncated drive, MFS should give you an option to expand the drive to full capacity.

If that works, than you can try MFS copy to copy over your shows. But be careful, that can make drive unusable again. Doesn't happen all the time, but I've seent that happen.

I don't want to re-write this, but I did exactly what the original poster did. The ONLY difference is that I used a full retail version of the same drive.

Mine ran correctly for about 4 months with no problems whatsoever. Then, on Saturday, I found just the green light on and no video signal. On reboot, it stops at the "almost there" screen for a few minutes. Eventually everything goes black. The TV, the lights on the Tivo, the whole thing.

I pulled the HDD and put the original one back, and everything works fine.

So, I pulled the 1TB drive out and ran a "in depth" disk check. Everything came back fine. So, I did what the original poster did. Which is what I did the first time I put the drive in. And it still doesn't work.

What could possibly be causing that? The drive shows no errors, but Tivo now rejects it. Any ideas/suggestions???

PS - I know I already lost all the recordings when i did the disk check, so no need to worry about saving data. i just want my 1TB drive back working OR I want to find a reliable way of finding out that the drive is faulty.

freality, I'm guessing you have an issue with the Intellipark feature of the WD Green drives.

freality and grit: You should both try posting in this thread (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=370784). Lots of people there with lots of experience and advice. The thread is active, ongoing, and all about upgrading the HDD.
