I have a series 2 SIR-S4080R Direct TV Tivo. If I ever decide to upgrade to HD, will this Tivo still work?
What is involved? I'm thinking they'll have to switch out my dish. Can I get 1 HD box/DVR for the new TV and still be able to use my older Tivo and boxes on my older TVs?

Yes, they will switch your dish. You will still be able to use your TiVos. Just make sure they give you an appropriate multiswitch so that you have enough lines. Your TiVo will continue to work just as it does now.

I was told on the DBS forum that the SWM dishes with a single-line feed can't be used with the old receivers. Said I must use the 5 LNB type. I sure like the idea of a single feed, but I need to keep at least one of my three Series 2 DirecTivo's along with my soon to be installed HR22-100 HD DVR.

The only dish that won't work is the newest 3-sat dish with the built-in SWM. That is still not nationally available. All the others that I am aware of will work with "legacy" receivers. If you get a dish with the standard four outputs and connect it to a SWM-8 module, you still have two legacy lines for your TiVo(s).

But just to clarify - the NON-SWM 3-LNB MPEG4 dishes (w/4 outputs) WILL still work with any legacy receivers, just like the 5-LNB non-SWM's will. It appears D* HSP's are starting to use the non-SWM 3-LNB's particularly in the 72.5 markets that are migrating ALL locals to the MPEG4 birds. I've had a few clients get the 3-LNB non-SWM LNB on all their upgrades recently...

I am out of luck in using a single output SWM dish with the old receivers? Bummer.

Legacy receivers cannot use a SWM feed. The separate SWM-8 module has two legacy outputs that can feed a DTiVo. The new dishes with an integrated SWM have no legacy outputs.
