Howdy all sorry for starting another thread but used the search and couldnt find what Iw as looking for. I'm new to DirectTV and had a few questions about setting up a HD Reciever and HD DVR.

I have the PhaseIII oval dish (I believe) that has a 4x4 multiswitch built into it with two lines currently running into a box in a closet in my house which then are connected to the two lines running to the Great Room and Bedroom. Currently the Great Room has the HD receiver hooked up and the bedroom has a regular receiver hooked up fine but what Im looking to do is add a DVR to the Great room and move the HD receiver into the bedroom to replace the SD receiver.

From my understanding the DVR will function with a single cable but in order to record while viewing another program you need two coax cables running into the DVR (correct me if this is wrong)?

I unfortunately cant run anymore cable as the only way to run it would be outside the walls.

The question I had is if its possible to add a multiswitch (and if it is what size) to where the Great room hookup and receiver meet. If not does anyone else have any other suggestions that would make this possible?

If you really can't run another wire, you should be able to use a SWM switch (http://www.weaknees.com/swm-directv.php)

(Disclaimer: I don't use SWM myself...)

I think the SWM-8 requires the 5LNB dish (Slimline). It also requires that you use specific DirecTV receivers/DVRs that are compatible, which I think means the HR2x and H2x series.

I do use a SWM-8 and it's great. I run two "legacy" feeds for my HR10 (TiVo), one feed for my HR2x DVRs and one for my OTA antenna - I have four lines coming into the house.
