Have one of the older round-style dishes. Currently, one of the two leads powers a Philips Series 2 in the living room and the other lead powers a Hughes Network Sysems Series 2 in the bedroom. We recently had a home renovation, and we wired two other bedrooms with coaxial cable for that special day when we could add two more DirecTV TiVo units to our home. The cables are ready to be wired. The problem is: I do not know how to go forward. Can I use the current dish and split the two leads coming from the satellite dish? Do I need to replach the dish? I am currently using only using one tuner in each of the two Series 2 units that we have. Your help is appreciated.

You do NOT use a T splitter as you would with cable

You must buy a multiswitch for satelitte... you need to read the FAQ

Tried to find it on my own; I have now read the FAQ. Still puzzled about something; do I need a 2 X 4 multiswitch or do I need a 2 X 8 multiswitch to power four DirecTV TiVo units? It says that I need two outputs from the multiswitch to power each of these types of receivers? Is this correct? Do I need to connect two outputs from a 2 X 8 multiswitch to each receiver or can I just connect one from a 2 X 4 multiswitch to each receiver? We only pulled one coaxial wire to each of the new rooms.

To use both tuners, you need two wires to each receiver.

A 2x4 multiswitch will provide a signal to each of your 4 coax runs

That will, of course, NOT allow you to use both tuners to be able to watch one program while you are recording a different program on another channel

IF you are still able to pull a 2nd run to each location (walls are not closed, or you are otherwise able to get to the locations) you would need a 2x8 multiswitch

I have a 2x12 multiswitch for 6 locations... only use 4, but have the coax available in 2 other rooms (did all this while building house)

Need current multiswitch seller(s). The FAQ that I am looking at goes back to 04/23/2002; need more recent references please.

Google is your friend

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=directv+multiswitch+2x4
or
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=directv+multiswitch+3x4

A 3x4 multiswitch has an input for a local antenna... which you don't have to use, especially if you get your local channels via DirecTv

Since all "current" multiswitches are 4 or 5 input, to go with the newer HiDef dishes, you MAY have a hard time finding a 2x4 or 3x4 multiswitch... so check eBay (and don't buy from someone with a bad rating !!!)

http://www.solidsignal.com is a good source for multiswitches.

May I suggest that in order to future proof your installation that you get the SW68 multiswitch. Your current dish would feed the Sat A 13v/18v inputs on that switch. You will then have 8 outputs for use.

If I ever get the cable company to do an install, I will have two 2X8 multiswitches I will not need.

I'm swinging by my storage area in a bit. I think I still have a decent 4x8 multiswitch there. I'll let you know if I find it.

Edit: Checked the storage area, and if I've got a multiswitch, I can't find it. Sorry.
