I have a Series 2 40 Hour with a Lifetime Tivo. It is going on its 4th year and the hard drive in it just died. I have a new hard drive that is a 200gb maxtor and the program instant cake. I followed the instructions and loaded instant cake on my new hard drive fine. I put it in my Tivo and it powers up and at the main menu I hit "clear and delete everything" like it says to do. I re-do the whole setup fine until I get to the last part. The last part makes the phone call out to get the guide information and it says it should take 20-30 min. This step usually takes almost an hour for me and then Tivo will just reset itself and it will go back to the first step of the setup. The hard drive will only reset during that step only after about an hour not randomly. Thanks in advance!

How certain are you that the problem was that your hard drive died; did you run diagnostics on it to determine whether that was the problem? Did you test the new drive to ensure that its not defective, as well?

You shouldn't have to do a 'clear and delete everything' with the drive when you put it in your TiVo, so if you are getting a 'hardware error' then there very well could be something else wrong. Obviously, the resetting issue is a problem, as well.

Are you certain you don't have other problems with the hardware?
