Has anybody seen any detailed factual information about the upcoming DirecTV Tivo Offering? Will it be a DirecTV DVR with TiVo software on it, or will a retail HD Tivo somehow be able to connect up? Is it a full version of TiVo with full features such as TiVo ToGo, NetFlix, etc, or will it be a TiVo Lite version? Enquiring minds wanna know....

What I've heard is that it'll be a DirecTV DVR using TiVo software, just like it was before.

Do not believe it'll be a DirecTV box that you hook a TiVo up to, since that's being done now...

You just can't record the new DirecTV HD channels in HD, since the only TiVos that can work with the satellite receivers are SD recorders.

Since the only TiVos that can record in HD can't take inputs from external boxes, this has to be something new. Again, it seems it'll be what people had before in DirecTiVos, except that the tuner will be able to get the newer HD DirecTV channels.

It being a stand-alone HD TiVo that can record off a satellite box just can't be, since if that was the case you'd think it'd also work with DISH, and would be called a "satellite HD TiVo" or something.

The fact there's the reference to DirecTV in the name shows it'll be a DirecTV box with TiVo.

We know nothing other than what was in the press release. However, that makes it clear that it will be an integrated box combining a DirecTV receiver and a TiVo-powered DVR. We don't know if this will be a distinct box (a la HR10-250) or a software download for some "standard" DirecTV DVR (a la Comcast TiVo). We don't know which standalone TiVo features will be available, though one can make some educated guesses as to what is NOT likely to appear (tie-ins with Amazon, Netflix, etc.)

Don't hold your breath waiting for this. I do not expect to see it generally available before 2010.

Is there any reason to think that the DirecTiVo integration might not be accomplished through the coupling of an off the shelf standalone TiVo HD and the yet to be relased Directv HDPC-20 external tuner talked about at last years CES?

A full featured TiVo + Directv programming would be awesome.

I agree that it would be awesome, but considering that this is an umsubstantiated article that is almost a year old, I am not holding my breath. You figure that if it were truly coming to market, we would have heard something (even if only a general pie in the sky press release) by now.

What we know from the press release:
"DIRECTV and TiVo will work together to develop a version of the TiVoŽ service for DIRECTV's broadband-enabled HD DVR platform. The product will support the latest TiVo and DIRECTV features and services, including TiVo's Universal Swivel Search and TiVo KidZone. TiVo will develop the new HD DVR for an expected launch in the second half of 2009."
Now the latest TiVo services include Amazon, NetFlix and YouTube, so I suppose those aren't guaranteed not to be there. Since those can compete against DirecTV's own VOD there is a pretty good chance they could be excluded.

In an interview at a recent conference called Hidden Gems, TiVo's CEO, Rogers, provided some more details. He said it would not be a software download onto existing DTV DVR boxes like the Comcast DVR with TiVo software. He did not make it clear if it were an all new box or if it was going to be based on an existing DTV platform such as the HR2x.

TiVo
could get me to return to DirecTV. Then again the HDPC20 for Windows7 Media Center could do that too. First one to market gets a look. Not a good time to be in second place TiVo...
