I just wanted to share that the instantcake for S3/Tivo HD is very nice to use. I was able to upgrade my stock Tivo HD in very short order.
Here's my setup
1) Used old Toshiba Satellite Laptop, actually about 2 years old
2) DriveWire (by Apricon, Inc.)
Has connections for SATA, 3.5 IDE, and 2.5 IDE, connects to laptop via USB
3) Western Digital 250 GB SATA drive
Basically, all that was needed was to boot the computer with the IC disk and follow the onscreen prompts.
I realize that some of the legwork was done by mfslive, etc... but kudos to DVRupgrade anyway for such an easy to use product.

Then that leads to my next question...
Is this the only version of instantcake that one can use with the adapter that I have? It would be nice to use this process with my S2.

Thx Magnus!!! I think you may have meant to say MFStools not MFSlive there. Both are great contributions, but its MFStools that is really the core of InstantCake, and that was Tyger's contribution a long time ago. With that said, Spike (the creator of MFSlive) did do some of the legwork in that he recompiled MFStools to work with the TiVo HD and I also used a derivative of his boot CD for the newest versions of IC for the Series3 and TiVo HD specifically because of the updated kernel, and the USB/SATA support. So basically, big thanks are in order for both of those guys (and I've already let them know that, of course)...

Yeah, unfortunately, it is (right now). Its on my list to revamp the product line and use a new 'core' boot CD with the support for the USB devices. I've resisted doing it, though because some of the autodetection for devices I do on the older IC versions doesn't work with the new CD and therefore, IC is a little easier to use (IMHO) on the older boxes than with the Series3/TiVo HD.
What are your thoughts on this? Is the trade-off worth it?

It kind of depends.. . for most it might be better to have the auto detection. My main thought with the question was that I wanted to retire an old PC that I would have used for old IDE drives.
