Tivo HD Question

My Tivo is dying and I see the refurb HD's are $179 on the tivo website. Do you have to get the cable cards or can you use it for SD without the cards? Anyone know what Cox Cable charges in AZ for the cards and monthly charge. I am in Southeast AZ.

CableCards are only required if you want to get the encrypted digital cable channels, and guide data for the non-encrypted digital cable channels (clear QAM).

If you are using strictly analog cable, and/or OTA, CableCards are not used at all.

As far as costs, it is best to contact your local cable provider. Costs vary across the country even with the same provider.
