Anyone know why phone numbers are popping up on the screen while watching a show? A box came up with my cell phone number on it. Then another phone number which my wife recognized as someone who had called us earlier.

Is this some sort of caller ID? Why would it get recorded into a Tivo show?

By any chance, is your TiVo hooked up to a set-top box? A set-top box that might have caller ID capability?

Do you subscribe to telephone service via your cable TV provider?

If so, as already mentioned what could be happening is your cable box also serves as a caller ID box, and displays the number on your TV screen. Of course the box has no way of knowing it is connected to a TiVo or other video recording device, so the number gets displayed as if you were watching the program live.

If this bothers you, check the box's settings to see if it can be disabled, or perhaps it can be disabled at the cable company's end.

Strange. I have the caller ID that pops up when I am using my TWC box to watch a program via that box's TV input. When I watch a program via the THD input, the caller ID does not show up. I assume that the ID comes up on the cable box TV input, not the THD input. Wonder how this this is happening for drumorgan??

The OP likely is using a TiVo Series 1 or 2 box in conjunction with a cable box from his cable provider.

That is correct. I've never seen this before and have had this exact setup for years. Hmmm. Telephone and cable provided through same line from Time Warner.

Thanks for the responses.

Presumably it's a new feature that Time Warner just turned on.

I had the TWC guy out a month or so ago to check sig strength and connections. I ask him about it and he made a call and they downloaded the software to make it work. He said that they are still "just expermenting" with it and so it's free. I can go into the STB setup and turn it off and on. Oh, and they have been advertising it for several months now, thats where I got the idea to ask him about it.

Well the worst thing was we were watching a show that was "taped" the day before. So, by watching it back, we got to see a number of somebody that HAD called us, and was not currently calling. Pretty useless.

There should be an option to turn it off.

Unless you need to have it on record that someone called you. ;)
