Ah, Terence the drama queen rears his ugly head yet again. To paraphrase Adam Sandler: you don't just look at your plate for an hour and then call it quits...you get your ass in there and you eat that farking meat! I'm truly amazed they were almost able to recover from that. So, SO happy this was an elimination leg!

So many people misreading the clues! At least Toni and Dallas figured it out relatively quickly, but that was REALLY stupid of Tina. And the frat boys' leaving their shoes AND taking the cab was a whole new level of idiocy.

Certainly Terrence is a drama queen, no argument there. However, if someone hasn't eaten meat for 15 years I can see how he would actually be sick from it. His body wouldn't be able to digest it very well.

Misreading the clue: Every team should always have both team members read the clues so that you don't miss anything. When the other teams read the clue, they clearly read "Proceed to the next pit stop ON FOOT." When the frat boy read it, he read "Proceed to the next pit stop."

Terrance would say "You read it wrong, Babe." But now he's gone. I was almost sure this was going to be a non-elim leg.

I always wonder if the contestants read these kind of forums or blogs. You would hope a young lady like Sara would then realize what type of abusive relationship she is in.

Why would a 15-year vegetarian take the eating challenge fast-forward on a reality show? Did he think that a Kazakhstani feast was going to be fruit and soybeans?

Lots of stupidity tonight. But Dallas's antics while in the cow suit were awesome and made up for the rest. I am so rooting for him and his mom now.

They don't know what the FF is going to entail when they read the clue. That's part of the fun (and also why Joyce ended up with a shaved head in Romber's season, why Nick and Don got tattoos last season, etc., etc.).

But they did know it was a restaurant right? You'd think that alone would be enough of a clue to steer clear on such an all-or-nothing thing.

Again, Dallas and Toni show that they are a competitive team without playing dirty or bickering at each other. They're working together and having fun, I realy do hope they win.

I'm truly amazed they were almost able to recover from that.
I bet the reality of the situation was that they weren't even close to Dandrew but they just edited it to show every one of Dandrew's miss-steps while making it look like clear sailing for Terence and Sarah. We've seen in previous seasons where it looked like a footrace to the finish but then the second to last team checks in when it's dusk and the last place team checks in during complete darkness.

Since they won't be back next week, we'll never know how far back Terence and Sarah actually were.

Speaking of which, when Phil took his long pause after saying they were the last team to arrive, I thought he was going to announce a non-elimination leg. I was very glad when he didn't.

Presumably, next week will be a non-elimination, so Dandrew will be eliminated in two weeks.

I don't think we were explicitly told what the clue said, were we?

And even if it did say it was a restaurant, Terence is a moron and probably wasn't thinking clearly, and we know Sarah's judgment is terrible just because she's with him, so I think it's entirely plausible they just rolled with it. :D

Last night's ep almost needed to be 75 minutes long just to deal with the stupidity of SEVERAL teams!

Drink the milk, now let's go back and get rid of the suit??? Let's go to the beef place and just see if they'll just give us our clue - then get sent back for the cow suit again! I agree with the poster that said both team members should read the clue, but I almost believe that Tina and maybe even Dandrew would probably just argue, "I read the clue and this is what we have to do!" without even letting the other one see it.

And what the heck is up with, "Dude, this is a team. You HAVE to slow down and wait for me?" Get a fire in your butt, son! It's a race for a million dollars!

I'd also be willing to bet that doofus and Sarah were FAR behind Dandrew at the finish - nowhere close to what the editing tried to make it look like.

Terence and his endless suffixing of every sentence with "babe" takes me out into a Two A-Holes SNL sketch.

I'd love to see the frat boys leave next. They were lucky this week more than once.

The crane ride seemed really out of place, since it served no purpose other than as a very heavy taxi.

I actually thought that was rather smart. They were already there, what did it hurt to go in and see if maybe they'd be able to get the clue, might as well try.

What was odd was that the driver didn't know where they were going, or it seemed that way for Dandrew, however it would not surprise me if the driver did but are told ahead of time if the contestants want to stop and ask for directions to let them.

Smart, maybe, after they were already stupid. Had they read the clue, there was nothing that said dump the suit, then proceed to the Meat Section. I kind of see it the same way as taking a taxi when it says, "Proceed on foot". Just a waste of time because you aren't reading the clue.

So can Dandrew take some of their mandatory rest period to go back and retrieve their shoes?

It also seemed odd to me that such transportation set up by the show would have drivers that had no idea where they were going. At least in the reading of the clues I heard there wasn't the normal "You need to tell the driver how to get there" clause, though that could have been the case.

I think the drivers were told specifically that the teams had to provide directions. That's the only logical conclusion.

What I don't understand is why Dandrew left the chicken farm right behind Ken and Tina and didn't simply follow their crane. Seems like if you're having trouble with directions, you at least follow someone else you know is going the same way you are, and if they make a mistake, at least they're not ahead of you.

So glad to see Terrance gone. What a ******.

Terence and Sarah deserved elimination for just being annoying but wasting so much time on the fast forward was ridiculous - you can't eat it then leave and go back to the previous clue! That food did look pretty nasty - good for Nick and Starr getting it done!

I could be happy with Toni & Dallas or Nick & Starr winning - both teams have great attitudes and drama-free.

Hopefully Dandrew and Ken & Tina will be eliminated soon.

As for Dandrew and getting directions - their attitude is not very good when trying to get people to give them directions. They act like they expect people to be nice to them and give directions. They need to learn to be nice when asking - not just demand someone do it. They seem to be pretty clueless with people skills overall.

It seemed (by the editing anyway) that Dandrew just yelled out asking directions to no one in particular while the other teams would stop and ask specific people for help. I think one of Dandrew said something about that at one point.

In the cow they were just yelling, which is also odd coming from a cow.

In the crane they pulled over holding a map and asking, possible certain person or small groups.

Cuz they are in Kazakhstan wearing a Star of David around their neck? They watched Borat, did they think he was joking about the anti-semitism?I had thought Kazakhstan was a heavily Muslim country before now, but checking the CIA factbook (https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/kz.html)it appears that it's only about half-Muslim. And judging from some of the Kazakh babes they showed last night that's pretty accurate! (Borat really undersold his country's women!)

I was surprised by how pretty and clean the country was. (Or maybe it was just so much better than India it just seemed that way!) All in all I thought Kazakhstan was a place I'd like to visit. It definitely got a fairer shake from TAR than it did from the Borat movie!

I never really got why the producers had the teams ride in those big crane trucks. Visually it was something different, but what was the point? A taxi would have been simpler.

The golden egg roadblock was pretty good. Not too easy, and kind of interesting to see how chicken production works.

I really need to stop staring at Starr's beautiful, beautiful cleavage.

Actually, many of them made it harder than it needed to be. They were trudging along slowly, politely asking the chickens to move. But really, when's the last time you saw a bird not move out of the way when something was about to hit it? They should have just run up and down the rows and the birds would have moved out of the way.

That and some people were actually looking under each and every chicken.

I agree I would have been running around making them move and if you were worried about stepping on them then shuffle your feet quickly around, problem is you might kick the egg but you almost may feel that you kicked it.

I would have trudged along myself. The last thing I'd want to do is slip and fall on what is no doubt on the floor of that place. Bunny suit or no bunny suit.

As for politely asking the chickens to move, that was quite funny. Why would a chicken sit on a plastic egg?

I'm glad the Fast Forward allowed more than one team to compete. I've always hated the Fast Forwards where a team got there first and took as much time as they wanted to do the task.

This way, it's about who does the task first, not who gets a faster taxi.

Totally agree with this. I love FF where you can actually compete to get it, rather than the one earlier this season where only one team at a time would have been allowed to climb that tower. I think it would be fun sometime to see a FF clue that simply said "First team to the Pit Stop at ______ gets the FF." You'd likely have several teams racing to get there and then all but one would have to go back. That would make for a fun episode.

Since they won't be back next week, we'll never know how far back Terence and Sarah actually were.

I think I've said this before, but I REALLY wish they'd give this info.. Maybe right as Phil says "you were the last team to arrive", superimpose "15 minutes behind" or something like that... even if it's non-elim, since that won't give it away.

In fact, when the teams start each week, give a time delta between teams, since I usually end up rewinding AT LEAST once to figure it out myself.

I'd also be willing to bet that doofus and Sarah were FAR behind Dandrew at the finish - nowhere close to what the editing tried to make it look like.

If what dbranco posted is actually the case (a 7 minute difference) then this may not have been a big deal in this case, but if they did show that information that would pretty much either (a) eliminate the ability for them to edit it to look like it was close when in reality it was nowhere near as they would be giving that away or (b) make them look REALLY stupid for editing it to look close when it wasn't.

Wow - just seven minutes - that really does make Dandrew look pretty much incompetent. Good luck next week, boys!

Yeah, I don't get the hatred for Nick and Starr either.

I was also hoping that we'd see signs that Sarah wasn't going to put up with Terence any longer after their Philimination, but unfortunately, she continued to talk about their relationship in the present tense.

I feel for that woman. When Terence was rattling off "good things" about her, it sounded like he was reading a grocery list. "You are wonderful, babe. You are doing great. I am a robot."

She deserves better, though as noted by others, I'm not sure her judgment is all that great by the fact that she stays with him.

Anyway, though I still feel for Sarah, I'm glad that the exit takes Terence out of my life for good.

Toni and Dallas just keep plugging, and doing great. THAT is a functional relationship, and the two clearly like and respect each other.

We'll just have to see she continues to put a monkey wrench in her son's love life, if only because she wants him to concentrate on the race and not on one of the competing female racers :) Especially one who does seem interested in him...I get the idea she'd be fine with Starr otherwise, just that she'd be concerned that it'd take Dallas off his game...

Dandrew needs to go, even more than Terence did. Why is this team still in it? They've rolled through the entire race without a clue, and I don't just mean the clues they misread from week to week.

With Dandrew gone at the next elimination (likely in 2 weeks), that sets up Toni and Dallas, Nick and Starr, and Ken and Tina. Ken and Tina are also not immune to Clue Cluelessness, as we saw this week, but if you have to have a villain going into the final 3, I guess you could do worse.

Josh Wolk checks in with the EW recap (http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20240799,00.html):

Terence seemed rather beaten down this leg, as evidenced by the fact that he couldn't motivate himself to sculpt his usual fauxhawk. Plus, his shirt was emblazoned with the word "LOVEMORE." What, did he no longer have the get-up-and-go to vocally plead with Sarah for affection, so he just sighed, scribbled it on his shirt as a standing order, and slumped down in the back of a cab? Although putting your most persistent grip on a T-shirt could be a very efficient move for many players. Imagine how much energy Tina would save if instead of constantly snapping at Ken, she just wore a shirt with a decal that read, "SHUT UP. YOU'RE WRONG"?

Good riddance, Babe!

Man, am I glad Terence the tool is finally gone. One of the most annoying TAR contestants ever, rivaled only by the one I would prefer to forget and Mirna.

And Terence was an idiot for choosing the FF in the first place -- anyone who has watched TAR before should know that the FF has frequently involved eating challenges, and the eating usually involves some sort of unappealing animal part. A vegetarian has no business taking on a FF in the first place, especially if another team is also going for it. That was just dumb.

While I appreciate people experiencing and enjoying a culture, before Borat, I'll bet <%10 of the US population had even heard of Kazakhstan. And if I was trying to become world knowledgeable prior to competing in the Amazing Race, getting familiar with anything related to Kazakhstan would probably be pretty low on the to do list. At most, I'd try to learn basic phrases in the major languages.

Of course, the blogger is not a TAR regular:

I do not watch the series regularly, so I don’t know whether the show treats all foreign countries as disrespectfully as they treated Kazakhstan.

I don't think that Kazakhstan was presented in all that negative a light on TAR. "Wacky" events based on some bizarre local custom is pretty much par for the course. It's not meant to show what daily life is like there.

I think that blogger is unusually sensitive and expected some sort of "travel guide" for Kazakhstan when that is not what TAR does. Kazakhstan looked lovely imho -- it sure came out looking better than India has ever looked on TAR, when the racers do nothing but complain about the crowds and the smell.

I can't stand Nick & Star.

They're awfully smug, but, otherwise, I don't have anything against them.

Just when I thought TAR had stopped the stupid food challenges (we're out again, Inundated).

I think they were probably advised NOT to run in the chicken coops. Can you imagine the chaos if two or three racers were, well, racing in there at once?

Terence should have turned tail the minute he saw food.

I like Toni and Dallas (is that right? Toni?). I agree with Inundated that I think she's more interested in keeping his focus on the race rather than on Starr and I don't blame her.

Very surprised that Tina and Ken have lasted this long. I loved it when he said "are you sure about returning the cow suit" or some such thing and she said "pretty sure". Pretty sure? Read the clue again!

I wonder if Andrew had to go back to get their shoes or if the producer had them brought over.

Anyone have an idea how long the "Mandatory Rest Period" is. They only say it about every 3rd leg or so. I know they show 12-hours between the end and start of legs. Is the mandatory one longer?

The mandatory rest period they refer to is generally 12 hours. They may vary from time to time to fit with what has to be done (some are over 12 hours), but in general, they are 12 hours.

I think sometimes the rest periods are longer than 12 hours (e.g, maybe a day and a half rather than just 12 hours) so maybe (2X+1)*12 hours is more accurate.

Our own Achilles Heel. :)

Well, I think we're probably out for good, as I don't see the show ever fully giving up food-based challenges...

I like Toni and Dallas (is that right? Toni?). I agree with Inundated that I think she's more interested in keeping his focus on the race rather than on Starr and I don't blame her.

And though I would imagine she didn't see a piece I'm thinking of, Toni (yes) probably has good reason to keep an eye on the situation with her son.

In one of the pre-race interviews, Starr and Nick (particularly Starr) bragged about potential strategy. If I remember right, Starr said basically that they would trick other teams if necessary to gain an advantage.

It didn't seem that "mean" at the time...it didn't make them come off in my minds as a scheming team.

But knowing what we now know about Starr and Dallas' budding relationship, I could easily see Starr (a former Dallas Cowboys' cheerleader!) using female persuasion to slow down Dallas a bit if needed...even if she doesn't actually plot ahead of time to do so :D

So, yes, Toni has a challenge to keep her son in the game when Starr's around.

Yep.

Nick and Starr have both accomplished their life-long dreams. Nick performs on the New York stage in an Off-Broadway musical called The Fantasticks, while Starr was a cheerleader for the Dallas Cowboys for the past three seasons.

I was complaining while viewing it...from the moment we started hearing about the flight arrival times. With the teams all arriving in late night or very early morning, I could see the Hours of Operation sign in my head before they even showed it.

Even Dandrew managed to sneak in under the wire.

Though frankly, considering the possibility of limited flights where they were headed, there probably wasn't much the show could have done about it.

at least the sign appeared to be an older sign instead of an apparently newly printed one.

Speaking of limited flights, can you believe how far out of the way some of those teams had to fly to get to Kazhakstan? Considering that Dandrew's flight was significantly shorter than the other two, I'm not surprised they made it on time.

I just went back and looked at the show again - Dandrew went by far the shortest route, via the United Arab Emirates (Dubai). The other teams changed in Moscow and Frankfurt (!!!).

If the Amazing Lines are any indication, their connecting flight did leave somewhat later than the other two, but was much closer.

What? The food challenge wasn't mandatory. Just don't go for the Fast Forwards! :D

If Terrance & Phillip weren't so greedy about trying to be in first place, they could easily still be in the race.

It was very strange for them to have to get into huge cranes at a chicken farm to go to a re-creation war show.

I think we're both still thinking of the infamous Rob-n-Ambuh meat eating challenge, among many others...and I'm pretty sure they've done food challenges that weren't FFs.

Wendy and I don't, well, have the stomachs for it. :D

It's been well documented that for a variety of reasons they have gone a longer period than 12 hours. Usually production issues with travel and crews but sometimes because of other issues like equipment or weather.

Bierboy was just making fun of pdhenry's math, not questioning whether they sometimes stay at the pit stop longer than 12 hours.

It seems most food challenges in recent years have been for Fast Forwards or Detours, though, so you can avoid them. Recent food challenges (according to Wikipedia)
-The fast forward this year
-None in Season 12 that I can recall
-The "make sausage and eat it" one from Season 11 (which was a Detour - you can avoid it, though it wasn't much sausage if I recall)
