I recorded off air material on 1 Tivo, transferred it thru my wireless netwrk to my DVD Tivo, but couldn;t burn a DVD from the file.
The error message said it was an incompatible format.
WTF?
It came from a dual-tuner Tivo, and it was recorded on best quality and I needed changed any other settings.
Are the newer Tivo's "incompatible" with the DVD units?

The transferred file plays fine and seems like all my other Tivo files.

But I can't burn it because "the files are incompatible".

This is a "feature" of all the DVD units. You can only burn shows recorded on the unit itself. If you search the threads in this forum, you should be able to find more details.

The DVD units record in DVD-compliant resolutions so there's no transcoding necessary when they're burning the disc. As a result, you can only burn content that was originally recorded on the box itself.

A (clunky) workaround for this is to hook up TiVo #2 to the video inputs on your DVD TiVo and then do a manual recording. Then you can burn the resulting recording to DVD.
