There is a 2-hour "24" movie next Sunday. Is this the kickoff for a new season? I can't find any other instances of 24 in the guide.

Is an upcoming television movie.

But the new season is still set for January 2009.

What Enrique said. From what I understand the events of the movie next week will set up the "day's" events of the next season starting in January.

I posted this in the SP forum, but my 24 SP didn't catch "24:Redemption". I had to manually schedule it.

The newest Entertainment Weekly has a review of the movie. It's not glowing (B-). Jack supposedly spends too much time being 'soulful'.

They do say they're very hopeful of the season itself, based on the setup the movie provides for it, and on the previews shown after the movie.

Out of curiosity though, has Entertainment Weekly EVER been positive towards 24? As far as Jack being soulful, he never gets a chance to during 24 proper. He just gets to cry once every few seasons.

Fox has already announced that, after the two-hour show in November, the series will return (i.e. the next 24-hour period will begin) on January 11 with the usual two-hour Sunday premiere, followed (I think) by two more hours the next night.

From the rumor bin I've been reading, EW and me must have very different definitions of what is "hopeful". To me it sounds pretty darn stupid. This isn't a spoiler thread so I'll leave it to you to explore the Interweb for more information.

I don't think I've ever trusted anything in the pages of Entertainment Weekly. I never have. That said, I won't judge it until I see it.

Is the movie in "real time" like the series?
That's a concept I like about 24. As for the rest, I just turn off my thinking cap and enjoy the ride.

Sutherland was on Leno last night, and said the 2 hour movie is separate from the season but sets it up.

Movie takes place in Africa and they couldn't very well get him from Africa back home without using a lot of the 24 hours of the next season.

They could have had a whole sub-plot of Jack averting a terrorist attack on the flight back

Not only that, my wish list for Title: 24 and category "Crime Drama" didn't catch it either. Even though it said "crime drama" right there in the guide data.

So, this movie isn't real time? I guess that makes sense, but I don't get the quote from Sutherland posted in the thread.

What stops Jack from being in Africa for the movie and then setting the next season to be on a different day from the movie?

I think I'm the last 24 viewer on earth who still hasn't seen the last 6 or 7 episodes of the previous season. My wife and I just can't get motivated to watch it. DVD has been sitting here from Netflix for a month, plus all that time before when I had it on the TiVo, then let it slip off when the DVDs came out but didn't order the DVD.

Nothing. I think you misunderstood. Sutherland's point was they couldn't start the regular season in Africa because it would have taken too long to get back to the US (in the show). So they did a separate movie for the Africa story.
