An OK episode, with one sterling exception.

I've never been a Justin Timberlake fan. But his Weekend Update segment was amazing. He's a very good impressionist.

"Give it on up for Turkeyville!" LOL

I agree. The rest of the episode was okay, maybe a few good parts. But then Seth introduces JT. I don't really listen to his music, but I have realized that he is a great performer. He hit a home run with his run down of what he would have done if he had hosted. Then, he came back for the Beyonce skit.

Agreed.

I really like Paul Rudd, but didn't think this SNL was that good overall.

I am generally neutral on Justin Timberlake, but thought his Weekend Update summary was awesome. I actually also liked the Beyonce skit, and then when Beyonce performed the song for real, I cracked up seeing a lot of the same moves.

Everytime Timberlake shows up on SNL, its entertainment level multiplies by 10. I wish he could be a regular on the show.

His weekend update bit was teriffic. Loved the Beyonce skit, too; maybe even more. And yeah, I too noticed her using some of the same moves in the later 'real' performance.

The rest of the show, wasn't bad; just OK. The "Jouney to the Center of your Esophagus" line got a loud LOL out of me.

Thought this was one of the worst SNL episodes ever. The Beyonce skit was the only thing remotely funny. But her performances...do people actually like watching that crap. There were 3 keyboard players in one song; 2 drummers; a wind machine to blow her hair; and a ridiculous metal glove. I like Paul Rudd, but his reading from the cards was distracting.

JT's Weekend Update thing was one of the funniest things I've seen on SNL this season-Tina Fey included. It was very funny.

"Step One: Cut a hole in the turkey"... :D

I never got Beyonce's appeal until her big solo number in Dreamgirls... I don't know that I can say I "liked" her performances, but I did give her kudos on the second song for being able to do all that dancing and sing the verses without being totally winded...

I'd bet good money that his rendition of what next week's episode would have been with him was 10x funnier that what next week's episode actually will be.:D

It's funny that JT can show up for two segments and do better than any of the regular cast members.

I agree with most of the comments here about it. The show as really not very good until he showed up...then suddenly it became terrific (with the skits that he was in).

So was he really supposed to be on it next week but had to pull out? Or was that just part of the bit?

I would have loved to have seen a Turkeyville skit.

Just before the monologue, I was thinking to myself, "wow, Paul Rudd must be honored to get to host the much-coveted post-election episode[/sarcasm]", and then lo and behold, the monologue was exactly about that. :)

I thought this was one of the more consistently strong episodes. Lately the political stuff has been funny, but the rest has been a big "eh."

But I found myself laughing at almost every sketch last night.

I had to rewind and re-watch JT's bit on WU several times. Awesome bit!!

"Give it on up for Turkeyville!"
"Target lady: 'I'm gonna put these curndles in my guest room...'"
"Talkin' it up, on the Barry Gibb Talk Show .... No, no I don't".
"I'd like to thank our special guest Jimmy Fallon..." (Excellent continuity there...)

The only other memorable bit was the Beyonce sketch, which of course, also featured Justin Timberlake.

"I'd like to thank our special guest Jimmy Fallon..."
don't forget "...and Senator Chris Dodd." Talk about random! :)

I'll echo the tenor of the thread as well.

Until JT started making SNL appearances I wasn't a fan, but man, there is no question the guy knows how to entertain.

I think this was the reverse of most SNL episodes. I think the sketches after Update were better than the ones before it.

And, yeah, Update was good, too. Like everyone else, I was impressed with Timberlake.

The Digital Short was good, but that other pre-taped "movie" was kinda lame.

I liked Kristin and Paul singing about the UPS delivery. It didn't look like he was reading from a cue card.

It was funny that they were singing to "Ode to Billie Joe."

The only thing that bummed me about the UPS delivery song is that it didn't start with 1Z. ;)

That's my attitude. I'm not a big fan of her music, but she is incredibly hot.

Interesting so many did not like this episode. I thought this was the best episode of the season, mostly on the strength of the cast performances.

I thought JT was great, but overall I enjoyed the whole show, which is usually not the case.

Not my point.:)

Most singers that dance don't actually sing while they're dancing.:)

Did anyone else notice that almost all of the sketches were about gay themes? ...."not that there's anything wrong with it". (Grin)

Also, I guess Biden is the new whipping boy for SNL. They worked so hard to get Obama elected I guess he is safe for now.

I think it's more that Fred Armisen's Obama impression is pretty dreadful.

+1

Well, I liked him already, but there is no question that he is enormously entertaining on SNL, far more than anyone could have guessed. JT will go down as one of the great all-time SNL hosts imho, like Alec Baldwin.

I like Paul Rudd and I thought he did fine, but the two sketches with JT were the best part of the show imho. I really want more "Barry Gibb Talk Show" - it never fails to make me laugh. :D

Here we'll have to disagree. The first one was excellent. The subsequent ones were just lame retreads of the first. Had they done something just a little bit new, it might have been ok.

I love JT on SNL. The most annoying thing about this how was learning that he was supposed to host next week and won't be now. The dancers sketch was roll on the floor funny for me and my family :) I like Paul Rudd and thought he did a good job here also.

I noticed. Really gay and not funny. NTTAWWT, except for the time I wasted watching. It was extra nice to see Beyonce - to immediately purge those images of the guys kissing from my mind and replace them with lots of much more pleasant images.

So, in conclusion, "Barry Gibb Talk Show" is exactly like every other recurring bit in the history of "SNL."

I still laugh every time. Just because I find the impression and the theme song funny.

Target Lady, otoh, I have never found funny. Not even the first time.

Nor have I ever found that Calhoun guy funny, and he's exactly the same every time too. Still not funny.

It's "funny" how Tim Calhoun is a love-him-or-hate-him character.

I find him extremely funny, every time.

Beyonce is hotness. The reason the steps are the simliar is that her actual music video is the same as the skit. I guess the song gets the same performance routine.

I love Tim Callhoun! Just wanted to say that - seems every SNL thread people are hating on Tim. Hoping for more Tim Callhoun this weekend...
