Series 1 Sony SVR -2000 stuck at "your recorder is starting up. " I put another HD in it and it is the same. The fan and HD are running and sound normal. The green light is on and stays green.

My question is could the power supply be bad even though there os power to the fan, HD and light?

You say that you put another HD in it, but where did it come from - another working SVR-2000, one that you created with InstantCake or some other program, etc? If it was just a new drive from your local Fry's or BestBuy it will have to be partitioned, formatted and have the correct OS installed.

I have two faithful old SVR-2000s that have been through everything from failed Maxtor drives to two separate lightning strikes. If you're getting enough juice out of the power supply to light up the box and spin the drives I doubt that it's a power problem.

I tried a new power supply, No change. I guess I need to run a disk check on both of the disks.

My disk is a Maxtor Mod. 4D080H4 DATE 11/01/2001.

The used one is Maxtor Mod. 6L08L0 02/26/2006. Might be from a Series 2.

Any suggestions welcome. My wife really misses her Tivo.

I have had nothing but one miserable failure after another using Maxtor disks, but what I was asking is if the new disk was specifically set up for your SVR-2000 or if it's just a disk that you put in the box.

It has to be partitioned, formatted and have the exact right operating system for that model of TiVo pre-installed before it has any chance of working. It sounds like you just put a new disk in it from somewhere (correct me if I'm wrong).

If that's the case the easiest answer is a program called InstantCake that you can get over at www.dvrupgrade.com. All you have to do is hook the new drive up to a computer and run the software to create a disk that's ready to install in your TiVo.

This is your problem here. You cannot put a hard drive from a different model TiVo and expect it to work.

You need to purchase Instant Cake for your specific TiVo model and install that onto your desired hard drive. If you don't wish to do that, you can get a pre-formatted hard drive from a number of vendors.

Thanks for the replies. I'll get instant cakes.
