Hey guys/ladies,

I need a little help with a current situation:

I purchased the DirecTivo (10-250) back when it was originally released in 2004. It has been the workhorse of my TV watching and other than a few small complaints I've been very happy. All of my local OTA channels come in well and I have no real need for the HD offerings D** provides since a majority of of my viewing is local (75%) and the rest don't have HD channels.

My beloved Tivo (or Tito if you will) has given me the blue over heating screen and from what I have been reading on here, will require a power supply swap. I need a little help in deciding how I should proceed:

Either I can-

Do the power supply swap and hang on to a dying machine, which will be additional money out of pocket for a machine that is out dated and aged.

Try out the D** HD DVR and sign a 2 yr contract. Please advise how this will affect my account status if I decide to upgrade to the DTivo when it comes out next year (hopefully).

Try the Uverse DVR and see how that goes. I live in a area that Verizon does not offer Fios and my other options are AT&T or Cox. The Cox signal in my neighborhood is terrible and can't see going to that company. I was hoping that people that have experience with the AT&T HD DVR could chime in and let me know thier feelings on the HD DVR offerings.

Thanks in advance for any opinions/suggestions that you may provide.

Ivan

Nobody knows yet if the new HD DirecTivo coming later next year will be considered an "upgrade" on your account. Or whether you'll be able to purchase one without a 2-year lease commitment.

I can't answer your Uverse DVR question.

A few simple things to try. Open it up and clean out the dust. Raise it to allow more air circulation.

Also check to see that the fan is actually spinning

I checked when I had an R10 open to replace the drive with a larger one, the fan seems to be 70mm x 70mm x 25mm and, as I remember, has a 2-pin power connector (far as I know, the HR10 is the same)

You should be able to find one fairly easily, if your fan has stopped
