View Full Version : Renamed Transferred Tivo Files @ PC Still Show Orignial Filename @ Tivo.

I've transferred a host of Tivo programs successfully to my PC (via Tivo Desktop) from my Series 2 DT box. I'm able to see these files on my PC from Tivo's "Now Playing" menu.

My problem is I have several different program series (10 episodes each) that display on the Tivo box with the exact same title for each episode making it extremely difficult to determine which episode I've highlighted without going several screens deeper.

I thought if I renamed the Tivo files at the PC, the new title would be reflected at the Tivo box but that wasn't the case. The original title remains.

I'd be highly appreciative if someone could shed some light or workaround on this issue.

Either convert it from a .tivo file to a .mpg with tivodecode or directshowdump and then TiVo Desktop will just show the filename of the .mpg.

Of course you could extract the metadata with one of various programs and even reattach that back to the .mpg, but that would show up with the same name and info then.

But, if you use pyTiVo instead of TiVo Desktop to serve back up to your TiVo, you could edit the metadata and make things say whatever you want.

Good Luck.

Many thanks dcahoe for your prompt reply!

Already have DSD and I'll give your suggestion a go as option 1.

Wasn't aware of pT. Did some searching and it looks promising for my other video formats as well.

I take it from your statement that maybe I should uninstall TivoDesktop before installing pT? Not sure if there are any potential conflicts so I guess I'll error on the side of caution and do exactly that.

Many thanks for your suggestions!

There is no conflict between TivoDesktop and pyTivo - they use different
ports. No need to deinstall TivoDesktop - although you may wish to stop
using it after you get used to pyTivo.

Many thanks steve101!

Haven't gotten around to installing pT yet but look forward to it. Sounds like once I do, I'll prefer it over TD.
