View Full Version : ER "Heal Thyself" 11/13/8
The return of Anthony Edwards. It was a stunt, but I think they did a good job with it. Reminded me of the old ER pre-Hawaiian death that I miss. But why oh why did she say "hypokalemia" in the middle of her kid coding though. Having to yell, "NO! It would be HYPERkalemia!!" at the screen took me out of the moment. Argh!

It was good to see Dr. Greene and other former cast members again. They did a good job of blending the two time periods together. I kind of lost interest when Anthony Edwards left, so it was good to see him again one last time.

Do you think it was just a coincidence that Romano was standing near a fan out the in the hall - even though the whirling blades were behind the protective cover?
How I hated that character. I cheered when he lost his arm in that helicopter accident (and then felt guilty about it). Then there was the irony of the chopper falling on him later, like it wanted to finish the job.
I bought cookies from Paul McCrane years ago at a Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids Fleamarket and Auction before ER. I didn't recognize him as the red headed guy from Fame (the movie), but I did remember his face melting in Robo Cop.

It was neat to see Eriq La Salle pay tribute to Michael Crichton who passed away recently. I guess Eriq is going to be in an up comping episde soon.

Jerry, the ER clerk. :)
My family went out for the night so that I could watch this one, cry, and yell my suggestions/corrections in peace. Which I did. :D Well done.

Can someone explain the concept of this show. I watched ER until around 5 years ago so all these characters are familiar. Can I just watch this one, will it make sense ?

Yes, I think it will make sense. The only thing you need to know is that the lead female in this episode (Angela Bassett) is the ER Chief. She's new to the ER and we don't know much about her, other that she's very distant and cold.

He wasn't in the show, although LaSalle did do the memorial at the start of the show.

I liked seeing the old cast, but the episode was way too sad for me.

I cringed when I heard they were bringin Edwards back - but I have to say they did a good job of setting up the episode - it's almost as if there have been clues every week on Bassett's character that were finally revealed here. For stunt casting, this was pretty well set up and written.

what a good episode! it almost took me back to the good ol' days. reminds me why I keep watching. yes, many of us figured something like this happened to the new Chief, but MAN they did a good job!
here's hoping the remainder of the series is this good!

Since the return of AE was a recent thing, I think, I wonder how this episode was going to be originally setup? I mean, its obvious that the new chief had problems. Was this always going to be her back story? Or was AE in the fold from the beginning of the season?

They could have used that plot and brought back any of a number of past doctors. None would have made nearly as good an episode as bringing back AE did though.

I stopped watching shortly after Romano's amputation. This ep made me feel all nostalgic. Man, I miss having this show to watch on a regular basis, but I definitely see why I no longer do.

Romano's and Kerry's appearances were a little to contrived. Missed a contrived appearance by Elizabeth.
Why set during Greene's last days? Doesn't really matter, but they focused a coupe of times on the chemo.
Even with all of that made me realize that I miss AE and thought it was a really good episode and missed Greene.
Bassett's loss of a child thing was fairly obvious and by-the-numbers but still well executed.
Her husband is a saint. 7 years and he is still hanging in there.

I'm pretty sure that was tongue in cheek because ER still gets pretty decent ratings. On a tough thursday night it still beats all of the following shows:
Ugly Betty
Life on Mars
My name is Earl
Cath & Kim
The Office
30 rock
Kitchen Nightmares
Smallville
Supernatural
