I have an old modded Series one that is my main tivo. It has been running fine for the last 4 years with no ill issue other than a failed hard drive or two. Anyway today it froze. When I power it on, it says "The Internal Temperature was too high, the system has been shut down to avoide damage to the hardware... blah blah blah" and it won't get past that.

I let the machine cool off for about 2 hours and took it apart. checked the fan, the fan is spinning wonderfully with no slowness or apparent issue. PLugged everything back in and same problem.

Any ideas?

Is there any dust inside the case? If so, blow all of it out with some "compressed air" dust sitting on components will act as a blanket and keep the heat in. Don't forget to check under the motherboard if you can.

Yup, I did that.

I let the recorder sit overnight unplugged, blew it out and plugged it back in. HOwever now its stuck at the "phillips presents... your ptv recorder is starting up, please wait a moment" screen.

I'm going to leave it like that for a few hours and see what happens.
