Sanctuary, which started life as a series of independent webisodes before getting picked up to series by Sci Fi, will be returning for a second season, the network says.
Sci Fi has given a 13 episode order for season two of the series, which follows Dr. Helen Magnus, who holds the secret to a clandestine population that lives among humans.
The Oct. 3 premiere of Sanctuary was the network’s most watched since Eureka in July, 2006.
“Sci Fi will continue to trail blaze the television landscape by further exploring the many worlds of Sanctuary through its unique green screen environments,” said Mark Stern, executive VP of original programming for Sci Fi, announcing the pickup. “Technology and great storytelling makes Sanctuary a fantastic addition to Sci Fi’s 2009 lineup.”

I hope they start writing original plots then, instead of recycling every cliched plot from every other science fiction / x-files knock-off. Also I hope the main male lead gets a better haircut.

you gotta be poopin' me. I didn't think this show had a chance in he!! of being renewed. Just goes to show you the standards Scifi channel is looking for. Me too, I guess, since I'm still watching.

People never seem to get that networks renew or cancel shows based on profitability, not quality.

This show must be really inexpensive to produce.

I just hope it gets out of monster of the week mode soon and establish a story arc.

Considering its origins, it almost certainly is.

sam probably gets 2x the pay as SG1 but since there are no planets to create, less expense :)

No, I get that. I'm just shocked that both of us are enough to make the show profitable.;)

Absolutely! Maybe SciFi could take over My Own Worst Enemy production!

Except Sanctuary is a bargain-basement show with a no-name cast that can be done on a dime and be profitable with even mediocre cable ratings.
My Worst Enemy is a high-budget show with several respected actors whose individual salaries probably are each more than the total budget of Sanctuary.

Just thought of something I've been meaning to say...
Every time I hear Dr. Magnus Ape-Man Butler talk I think it is "Todd the Wraith" from SG:A.
Anyone else notice that? I'm too lazy to go see if it is the same actor or just the same sound effects.

Heh. In fact John Druitt is Todd the Wraith.
Christopher Heyerdahl is playing both John Druitt and the "big guy" at the Sanctuary. He uses the "Todd the Wraith" voice for the big guy.

I found this show so bad I cancelled the SP, and now it's renewed. This shows just how out-of-step I am.

Don't feel bad. I thought that the mini-series 'Tin Man' was probably the worst i had ever seen on any channel. And yet, somehow it was nominated for an Emmy. Although, I think that had more to with how few miniseries were produced last year.
