Neither really interested me.

For those not clicking...it was Lipstick Jungle and My Own Worst Enemy

I got no beef with them canceling MOWE.

Too bad about Lipstick Jungle, though -- some nice eye candy in there. Let's get Lindsay Price on another show, stat!

That's why I don't run to watch some new shows. I have all of Enemy recorded, but did not watch because I wasn't sure if it would find an audience and I didn't want to get caught up in a plot to be left hanging when the ax came.

It happened to me on Invasion, and it pissed me off so much.

I was just about to start recording MOWE shows but glad I didn't. Got burnt on so many shows over past 2 seasons I just gave up on most new shows on the major networks. FX has had some solid shows so far. Sticking with them.

I'll probably still watch the MOWE from this week I haven't gotten to, as well as any others in the can they opt to to air... it's not *that* heavily serialized of a show and I handle it just disappearing without any 'closure'.

Let me just say, they gave us a way to get closure, I hope they use it.

I was excited for MOWE when I first heard about it and set an SP as soon as it was in the guide data. However, when I saw what the ratings were for the premiere, I knew it wouldn't last, as it had about half the viewers of the premiere of Studio 60 and the premiere of Journeyman, both of which didn't make it in the same timeslot. I've got them all saved up, but now I know there's no point in watching and I'll get rid of them.

It's looking more and more like the cable networks, that don't have such high ratings expectations, are the places where quality TV will be allowed to find its niche and flourish. The broadcast networks simply require too many viewers too fast for a good, smart show to develop a following.

Interesting show when Brooke is the least attractive.

Last season's Project Runway had the contestants designing an outfit for Brooke Shield's character that she was going to wear. Anyone know whether the outfit made it on air before the cancellation?

There should be an anti-NBC. A network that picks up all the shows that NBC dumps. Then when that Network gets better than NBC, NBC will be left scratching their heads going, "I don't get it."

Are there even REAL people in charge of making decisions at NBC???

I'm guessing it'll be easier to syndicate Knight Rider than Lipstick Jungle. Foreign audiences seem to go for our low-quality shows: Baywatch, CSI Miami, etc.

That's the only reason I can think of that one wouldn't want to totally scrap it. Of the few minutes I've been able to bear watching it, the dialogue quality seems a step below syndicated programming.

But if they're retooling KR during its first season, is there really any hope that it will survive long enough to be syndicated? I know the landscape is changing and it doesn't require the magic 100 eps anymore, but I'd think it would require at least two successful seasons, and I just don't envision that for KR.

There is I think. It's called CBS. CBS picked up JAG after NBC canceled it, ran it for almost a decade, and spun NCIS off from it. Not too bad for a NBC reject.

I had a few episodes of "The Ex List" on the DVR when I found out it was canceled. I actually kind of like knowing I have the complete set. I probably won't watch Lost or Heroes again until they have their series finales...

Unfortunately the lead is now on Gray's Anatomy so I don't see that happening.

The thing that really gets me is in this day and age of so many channels and more and more people with DVRs why haven't they expanded the prime time slots. I really wish the networks would stop considering 4 and 5 million viewers low ratings. There is obviously an audience.

I would love to see a network debut that picks up canceled series such as these and keep them alive even if it is a pay network like HBO. I would gladly pay to keep watching shows like these instead of the crap they run more and more.

It really depends on how they end the series. I'm watching it now, but I'll probably hold the rest of the episodes until I find out if they had a chance to write some closure to it. Or more specifically, I don't want to watch it if they're going to end it in a cliff hanger. I suspect some folks just don't want to invest any of their limited time on something they know isn't going to become an ongoing experience.

There have been a couple of shows that I did this with. After having watched Threshold, Drive and several like them, getting to like it, then having it cancelled, I have come to now record new shows that look interesting and let them pile up. Then if it gets cancelled (like Journeyman), I may delete the episodes unwatched.

There are some I would just as soon not get invested in then get upset when they are cancelled. I'd rather just miss out on the experience and not have to stew over their cancellation.

I don't want to invest my time and energy into watching a show that I already know isn't going to finish telling the story. If I knew going in that it were a 7 episode season and that's all it was planned to be, I'd be thrilled. I wish they'd do more of those. But if I know it was intended to be a full season and got canceled after 4-5 episodes, that's like reading the first several chapters of a book and then finding out that the rest of the book was never written and you'll never know how it ends.

I've never watched the show, but I often watch and re-watch the thing at the end of the previews when they're all sitting there with their hands all over each other. And yes, I never thought of Kim Raver as hot when she was on 24. It sorta seemed like they de-hottified the women on that show, but that's not really the case when I think of Kim Bauer, Naked Mandy, Michelle, etc.

I did like MOWE though, bummed about that.

Firefly is still painful to watch (as brilliant as it is) because there is a palpable sense of loss when you finish the last DVD and know that there are no more episodes coming, even though there are hundred of stories left to be told. But at least you get 14 episodes of the show, so there is some depth there.

Should I free the space and delete, thus saving the BIH NBC? Or is it worth watching anyway?

If you deleted Journeyman unwatched, you REALLY missed out. That show ROCKED AND had closure...or at least as much as you could get. That show had the benifit of knowing there was a strike ahead so got to finish the last episode prestrike knowing there was a chance it would never come back.

I didn't even know it was on Fridays now. That's what a Tivo does, I suppose. But most shows that go on Friday nights are doomed...they should keep Fridays to reruns.

LJ wasn't one of my "must watch" shows, but it's one I still liked, and actually enjoyed with my wife. We don't agree on too many shows!

And yeah, they never did show Brooke as terribly attractive.

Besides, I had to make a special exception to get the pilot episode and forgot to adjust the SP on one of my TiVos to override both Boston legal and CSI: Miami. Ergo, I have no other episodes recorded. :o

To each their own I guess. Personally, I like the journey as much as the destination. That's why I've never been bothered by ongoing unanswered questions in shows like Lost and Heroes. I like the ride as much as the "getting answers" part.

And Firefly IS a perfect example. If I had saved all of those episodes then deleted them unwatched just because it got canceled, I would have missed out on some very good television.

I also enjoyed Journeyman as long as it was on. And now My Own Worst Enemy.

Of course I would've preferred that these shows didn't get canceled, but I'm glad I saw what I did. The bitterness of cancellation doesn't make the episodes any less than what they were. Just fewer of them.

MOWE is still a good show with stellar acting by Christian Slater. I don't understand why people would delete shows they were looking forward to watching. Treat it like pulp fiction. Just enjoy it for what it is. Especially if it's something that appeals to you. If you know that the show will end, then you don't have to get all emotionally attached to it.

Also, after networks pour so much $$$ into shows and then cancel them quickly, why don't they just post them all on the internet where everybody (not just Americans) can watch them. Their website advertisers will get more exposure and that's really what it all boils down to, doesn't it?

I've enjoyed shows after they were canceled prematurely, such as Firefly and Freaks and Geeks. However, I watched those shows after I read many, many glowing reviews and knew that there was something there worth watching, even though it's unfinished. I'm glad I watched Journeyman and Traveler from the start.

With MOWE, I'm just not that excited to start watching it knowing that it's not going anywhere. If a year from now people are still talking about how good it was and what a travesty it was that it got the axe, I'll find it and check it out. But something tells me that's not likely to be the case.

I'm definitely not begrudging anyone their use of TV (or not) time. I just want to point out that if everyone starts just saving up all serialized shows and waiting to see if they catch on before watching them... we'll never have any more serialized shows. I, too, enjoy the show while it's on and shake my fist, then shrug and move on if it gets canceled too soon. Even in real life you often don't get to know the real end of the story.

I'm not convinced there is any causal relationship between what DVR viewers do and do not watch and what the networks do. Sure, Neilson is starting to make some adjustments for time shifted viewing, but I think it's only if you watch it within like 48 hours. We often don't watch anything all week and then catch up on the weekend. So whether I watch the show Saturday or queue it up for a month, it doesn't count either way.

So whether I watch the show Saturday or queue it up for a month, it doesn't count either way.True, but I think most DVR views do watch most shows within 24/48 hours. For shows I like (which includes most of the serialized shows) I typically watch them the same night. Although I never watch anything live (even sports) it's not uncommon for me to be shifted by only 20-30 minutes. Sometimes even less (Dexter, I'm looking at you!) I have two kids so I have no more time on the weekends for TV than I do during the week... even less, actually, since I can get the kids in bed earlier on school nights.

At the point where I don't watch a show for a week or longer, that show is already getting close to being canceled from my SP list.

Neilson is starting to take into account some DVRE viewing (at least that's what I read here), but the nature of what the ratings are and what they're used for, I would think, precludes any adjustment for a longer period than that.

I, too, am one that except for a few shows watches most of what I record well after it's original airing (mainly based on the sheer volume of stuff I record!). I've pretty well given up on my viewing habits having ANY impact on ratings whatsoever. :)

Now to add insult to injury, I just saw on NBC last nite they are going to have a new show in PRIME TIME: "Rosie Live" starring Rosie O'Donnell

Yeah, what's that about? They've been trying to bring variety shows back to TV now for two decades, and it never works.

I am just concerned at the reduction in shows that might require some intelligence and thought processes - so many "fluff" shows - is the general American intelligence level really that low? Really disturbing to me...

They killed LJ for ROSIE?
Heck, even Christian Slater is more appealing than her!

Also, I really enjoyed last night's episode of MOWE. :(

I saw the teaser preview for the new Rossie show. Didn't she go away for a reason? Why is she coming back?

Brooke Shields is baffled by claims her TV show Lipstick Jungle has been cancelled - because no-one has told her yet.

Internet reports last week (begs10Nov08) suggested the plug had been pulled on the NBC drama series, because of falling ratings.

But Shields insists she still has a job.

She tells Usmagazine.com, "It's not true. They're not breaking down the sets. We're still working. We still have more to do, so it's erroneously presented that we've been cancelled, thank God....

Hmmm...I wonder if the same might be true of MOWE.

I think Brooke is sniffing glue again -- at least according to the New York Post. (http://www.nypost.com/seven/11132008/tv/lipstick_jungle_cancelled_138515.htm) Of course, consider the source...

Perhaps Lipstick will finish production on whatever unfilmed scripts they have (and maybe tweak the last one to be a series ender), and the Post is just wrong about the 'currently filming' episode being the last.

I would guess that if the network decided to pull the plug on the show, it would not pump more money into filming episodes that weren't filming already.

I would guess that if the network decided to pull the plug on the show, it would not pump more money into filming episodes that weren't filming already. It happpens all the time where a show that's currently being aired isn't outright suddenly cancelled, but the network refuses to order/buy any more scripts for the show, effectively letting the scripts they have in hand turn into the end of the series. Just because they don't want the show anymore, doesn't mean it's bleeding money and needs to be gotten rid of ASAP. It's often making money, but just not as much as they'd like. So they let it die a quiet death over several weeks, which also gives them time to decide what they want to fill the slot with, too.

I like the commercial for Rosie where she's mistaken for people much more talented than her.

Hadn't read the NY Times link before posting my first response, but from that article it says that the crew reports that the ep they're currently filming is the last. Looks kinda dead to me.

Nope, everyone's just sick to death of formulaic crime shows.

Given the lead times of magazines, it's entirely possible that was true when she said it.

No, you said you were concerned about the number of new "fluff" shows on TV. My comment was that the reason you are seeing fluff shows is becase everyone is sick of formulaic crime shows thus a lot of the new shows are what you consider fluff. It doesn't mean its necessarily popular fluff.

Personally I wouldn't call MOWE a "crime show". But since there's no real definition, there's no way to be sure :)

I really liked MOWE but mainly because I'm a long time fan of Slater and was happy to see him in a show again. I think the show had promise but even after watching just the pilot I knew it wouldn't make it. I thought they might get the first season before being bumped though. Oh well.

I've never understood this either. Assuming it was recorded because it looked good, one could very well enjoy the episodes even though it's been canceled.

Kind of like reading the first couple Chapters of a book and not having the rest. What's the point?

Depends on if you like the journey. I actually just watched the last 3 episodes of MOWE a couple days ago. I thought the show is pretty well put together, and the episodes I saw did the thing I wanted them to do more of, so I was entertained.

At an extreme, I can watch part of a sports event. Beginning, middle, end - doesn't matter. If I like the sport (gymnastics, women's beach volleyball), I don't even need to know the running score. If I don't generally follow the sport (baseball, football, basketball), seeing the end of the game doesn't enhance the experience any.

I know. I think I'm wired differently than most.

But almost all TV shows *don't* have an 'ending'. They're separate, *vaguely* related episodes, if at that.. (of course most old shows 'hit the reset button' at the end of every episode, like the original Star Trek & Gilligan's Island).

Even for a running story, you still enjoy the part of the story that does exist. I missed one of the episodes of SwingTown, so am going to wait to rent the DVD so I can see the episodes in order.. but just because it was cancelled, I still want to see them all.

Heck, a show being cancelled with _unaired_ episodes is more likely to make me not watch it than a show that airs all of its episodes.. but not much more likely, I'll probably still watch them and wait for a DVD to see the unaired ones.

Last night I finished watching MOWE. It was well worth watching, even though I knew it was cancelled and didn't have an 'ending'.
