I just received a working S2 that had been shelved for a few months because of a bad modem. I have a S1 that's using an external Sportster and was planning on using one for this new (to me) S2. I ended up starting Guided Setup to set up for the new zip and setup but didn't realize I couldn't enter the prefix to tell tivo to use the serial port for modem in GS and now I can't get out of GS to change it the normal way.
I've read some similar threads and now realize I messed up and for some reason TiVo doesn't have an easy escape method to get out of Guided Setup without completion... and since it doesn't have a working modem and I can't direct it to use anything else from within GS, I'm trying to figure out what to do shy of opening the thing up, pulling the drive, finding an image and essentially formatting the thing. That's a lot of effort for a working (other than being now stuck in GS) Tivo. I would think there has to be a way of exiting GS without cracking the box. Plus I don't want to lose all the recordings on the drive. I don't have a network card to install but I couldn't tell Tivo to use it from within GS anyway just like I can't tell it to use the serial for modem.
I did see a suggestion on a somewhat similar thread to try a Kickstart (but no results were posted) and I'm currently waiting the 3 hours for the Kickstart 57 to complete. I'm hoping this will do the trick, but if it doesn't can someone tell me if it may be worth continuing on to try Kickstart 58 and Kickstart 52?
Or is there some other way that I'm missing? Thanks in advance for any helpful hints. -tremmor
