Fox has canceled one of its longest-running shows -- the late-night sketch comedy veteran "MadTV."

The Saturday night mainstay's current 14th season will be its last on the network, say Fox sources confirming a report on Defamer.

Yet the show's co-creator David Salzman says he's not giving up on the program and plans to shop "MadTV" to cable networks and other outlets.

Bummer....especially since it just went HD. But its quality was spotty at best.

... but normally a lot more "on" than it's Saturday Night neighbor that runs "Live" on another network

Yes, absolutely. I should not have said spotty "at best"...it is MUCH better than it's NBC counterpart.

There's a lot of talent on MadTV. They'll all stay in work. They all show up in the Apatow movies and stuff like that all the time. Caliendo landed on his feet with FrankTV. So did Alex Borstein and Family Guy. Mo Collins just popped up this week in a bunch of pretty funny webisodes (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tyC1dILecsA) Volkswagen put together for the MLS, playing a soccer mom in the "Road to MLS Cup". They'll be fine!

Oh, and I'm an SNL fan through and through.

I think the problem is that it never got the "buzz" that SNL has. People talk about SNL - whether it be good or bad, they still talk about it. No one ever really talks about MadTV.

SNL has been kicking MadTV's butt for a couple of season now.

Since Stephanie Weir left probably.

i dont know to blame the comedians or the writers? were people like aries and sasso just better actors or do the new people just have sucky material?

rewind back 5+ years and it was a great show..i really liked it but cant say i'm sorry to see it go now....i look forward to the mad reruns within the show every week because at least that's the good part

even the makers of the show must have thought the old eps were better to have 'wasted' new time with inserting the old stuff :)

The funniest skit I ever saw in MadTV was when it first came on the air (way back when Nicole Sullivan was in the original cast) was when they merged Pulp Fiction with Forrest Gump and got Gump Fiction. Still cracks me up to this day.

I've always hated Mad TV. I will not miss it in the slightest.

Wow.. surprising.. even though I admit I've got a TON of MadTV episodes I haven't watched yet (probably all/almost all of last season plus the ones from this season). (Though I'll still almost certainly watch them... I have indeed watched shows years after I recorded them.. and after they were cancelled.)

Hopefully Stephnie will get back to work now that her baby is coming up on her first birthday.

Same here. I thought the shows on now were all reruns.

I think the other problem with MadTV, and possibly the biggest one, was that it wasn't live. The times I've watched it doesn't feel nearly as spontaneous as SNL does. It felt very canned and very rehearsed. The energy that comes from that spontaneity on SNL feeds positively into the format of sketch comedy, I think.

I haven't watched this show in years, but am a little sad to see that it's going away.
