I purchased two TIVO HD units a couple of months ago to replace older Series 2 models. I've noticed that the TIVO beep sound that is supposed to occur when a button is pressed on the remote control does not always occur on them.
The Series 2 units did not have this problem. Because I am so used to hearing the beeps as a validation that I pressed a button, not hearing them is throwing off my rhythm in using the remote control.
Anyone else having this issue and is there a solution?

The sound effects will not be heard on a S3 platform when playing back a dolby digital audio. It can't mix the audio in like it can with an analog signal.
That is why it probably seems intermittent to you. Depends what you are watching. I assume you always hear it in the menus.
If you do not have your S3 connected to a DD receiver you could "downgrade" your Tivo's audio to PCM from within the audio menu. Then you will always hear the beeps.

Thanks. When making the change to PCM I saw the warning message on my TIVO. I changed one TIVO to PCM. On the other one I have the audio sent to a DD receiver so have opted to keep it as Dolby Digital.

I've opted to just turn off the beeps altogether. I don't feel I need them since switching to using the 30 sec skip (together with the 8 sec back) rather than fast-fwd.

Thanks so much. I've been having the same problem with my TivoHD, and that perfectly explains it. I wish there was a way to always get it to work.
Actually, I hear a "zapping" sound sometimes when I switch channels or tuners. Anyone else have this problem? I'm running my TivoHD via HDMI through a receiver to a surround sound system.

I get an odd sound as well when changing between HD channels. It almost like a pop. I generally try to mute my receiver as the channel changes and the unmute. It's annoying to have to do this but it makes me feel better. :o
