Toshiba sd-h400 480p 480i and HDMI

This is sort of a very basic question, but is the 480p output just for DVD's, or will the Toshiba output 480p for recorded programs. The reason I am asking is that I am planning a setup to use my SD-H400 with an HDTV that I believe will not accept 480i over HDMI. I prefer to use HDMI because I just have to run one cable (the unit will be in another part of the room). I found a component/audio to HDMI converter box. I don't have the TV yet to test, but if someone knows that will save me the cost of the converter.

In case anyone is interested, I did a test with a SD tv, and the 480P output is with recorded TV shows, not just DVD's.
