My tivo is dead. If I get a new hd tivo, can I take the cable cards out of the dead one and just put them in the new one, or do I have to have verizon (fios) come out to set it up?

You will likely have to have them re-provisioned. You might be able to do it over the phone (some cable providers do this anyway), but if not then a tech will need to come out.

You're in luck with VZ. They don't tie the cablecard to the device. Just move them into the new TiVo and be happy!!!
