Well it's getting close to the time for the winter update for our TiVo's here in the next 30 - 45 days or so. Version 9.5 I am going to assume.

So....

Does anyone have any ideas, speculations as to what this update will bring us?

I'd like to have MRV transfer speed on the TiVo HD to be brought up to TiVo S3 levels.

S3 to S3 is really fast. But when I transfer from/to an HD, or between HDs, it is a lot slower.

I'm just hoping the new software update doesn't cause issues with the My DVR Expander, as 9.4 did with mine.

I hope the new update gives us the ability to transfer h.264 videos to our NPL with out transcoding.

No one knows yet what is coming, and we wont until TiVo makes a press release or 9.5 or what ever version starts showing up.

But, I would say yeah, we are in the right time frame, if I remember, they wont do it after thanksgiving, and wont do another till after the supper bowl. So either it is coming up real soon, or we have a ways yet to wait.

I'm hoping my Tivo will just record (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=405090) things again.

Wow, that sounds like a nasty bug there. Best of luck to you with that getting fixed ASAP, I couldn't stand that.

Same here. Expensive chips just to have features being left mostly unused.

The Hawk beta that Engadget showed a few weeks ago looks pretty appealing. http://www.engadgethd.com/2008/10/10/tivo-soliciting-beta-testers-for-hawk-series3-tivo-hd-softwa/

I would like to see a native 16:9 user interface that is at least a fast and responsive as the long in the tooth UI that we all have become accustomed to. Rolling out HD movies from Amazon Unbox and Netflix at the same time as the winter update would be icing on the cake!:D

.

Thats a feature of TiVo Desktop not the TiVo. The TiVo can allready handle H.264 (mpg4) without any issues.

Last year it came about a week before Thanksgiving.

Well if "HAWK" is really going to be released as the Fall 2008 update. I will be very happy. Someone I know is a beta tester for it. It looks very nice & is very responsive as well as some other nice features as well.

I just wasn't under the impression that it would be out for our TiVo's as soon as Fall 2008. I figured it would be coming in the Spring of 2009, or Fall 2009. I am surprised they are this close to releasing it. Then again, we never know. It's release could be very delayed.

What I saw of it though, I liked. They are correct... Hawk is only for the TiVo S3/HD/HD-XL

I have noinformation about whether Hawk will go live this Fall. I sincerely hope the new widescreen interface will not be delayed until as late as Fall 2009!

Lord knows HD videos from Amazon Unbox, Music Choice, and others are long overdue. Adding HD streaming from Netflix would be awefully nice too.

They don't need "Hawk" to stream HD. They can do that with 9.4.

I'm hoping they fix the sound drop outs bug when I first change channels to an HD OTA ATSC source on My series3 thx

Well according to engadget... ONE new feature of the FALL 2008 update will be NETFLIX streaming!

YIPPEEE! Now I will have 3 devices to watch Netflix streaming on. My TiVo, My Xbox 360, & my Samsung bd-p2500! :)

Hopefully the Netflix streaming HD announcement for Tivo and Xbox 360 will light a fire under Amazon to launch Unbox HD sooner than later. I haven't rented anything from Unbox because paying for less than DVD quality just seems too much like the era of VHS. ;)
