I've had a Series 3 running on my 50" plasma in the family room for more than a year now and couldn't be happier. I'm finally going to get an HDTV for the bedroom and can't decide what to do (btw - I'm getting ready to make the jump from Comcast to FIOS).

Since I have a lifetime on my Series 3, seems like the best thing would be to get a lifetime for whatever box I buy for my bedroom. Having a ton of capacity isn't as important on that box since I won't watch a ton of TV up there, I can use MRV, and I never seem to even fill up my Series 3.

I also have a friend with a Series 2 with lifetime sitting in his closet, which I might be able to buy cheap. How much of a discount could I get off of my lifetime if I were able to get his unit (with lifetime) transferred to my account?

I'm not sure what you are asking. You can add his box to your account, put it in your bedroom, and pay nothing. If you are looking to get another Series 3 or TiVo HD for the bedroom then the lifetime for that unit would be the same whether you added your friends box or not.

I thought that it was cheaper to transfer an existing lifetime from a Series 2 than to buy a whole brand new one. Was I incorrect?

Lifetime subscriptions cannot be transferred from box to box, except under certain circumstances, or when TiVo is offering a special promotion.

If you're already a TiVo subscriber, an additional Lifetime subscription is currently $299. If it's your first box, it would be $399.
