View Full Version : Tivo HD vs. Comcast STB

Hi - I'm wondering if I can get a Tivo HD and DITCH my Comcast STB ... well ... specifically I'm wondering if:

1) I'm correct in believing the Tivo HD will decode the HD and I CAN in fact completely remove the Comcast STB,

2) will I lose any channels?

I don't have any premium channels ... supposedly I get 40 extra channels because I'm a triple-play customer - otherwise I have I think the Digital Plus package.

Yes, you will get all the channels but you will lose OnDemand and PPV services with the Tivo. But you gain a lot more in return.

Thanks - every time I try to use on demand the box locks up -- it's ridiculous. I even took the 1st box back and got a 2nd one -- same problem.

You won't really lose PPV - I have comcast and can still get PPV by ordering on the phone. I just can't order with the remote.

Ditch the POS Comcast "DVR" for TiVo and you'll never look back. :up:

BTW, PPV is still available. All you need to do is call Comcast and tell them which program you want to see. They'll activate the channel (and of course bill you for it). D'oh...jbernardis beat me to the post! :p

Do they tell you over the phone?

you will need cable cards for the tivo if you want any digital channels

You will also lose any SDV channels if Comcast is using it (I have RCN so I have no idea).

Tune to your Sneak Prevue channel for showtimes and ordering information.
Select movie.
Call your local Comcast Customer Service at 1-888-COMCAST (266-2278) to order instantly.

IIRC you can get the info from their monthly e-mail as well...probably their web site too.
