Tivo HD Reboots and hangs on welcome screen

I have had a Tivo HD since last xmas. I added a DVR expander over the summer. Recently it started just freezing and rebooting during playback. Now when it reboots it just hangs on the welcome screen. Unplugging and repowering multiple times will usually get it started again, but then it goes belly up during playback. I just got back from a weeks vacation to find it on the welcome screen and most of what I wanted recorded, wasn't! Any suggestions before I shell out $50 for a swap?

It sounds like one of your hard drives is going. Based on the number of posts that have been coming in lately, my first guess would be that your expander hard drive is the culprit. Do you have a way to off load your shows to PC or another tivo so that you can divorce the drives and see if this clears up your issue? (Divorcing the expander from the internal drive will cause all shows to be lost that were recorded after the expander was added to the system.)

Nope, I couldn't get it to reboot with the expander attached, so all my recordings are lost and the unit needs to be reprogrammed for recording. The expander is disconnected now and I'll contact WD about a replacement.

So you have already divorced the external drive and your Tivo now works? Sorry to hear your recordings are lost.

Anyone else make an external drive that will work with a Tivo HD? I'm not thrilled about how long the WD MyDVRExpander lasted.
