When they were being chased by the nazis in the car, I heard the music and recognized it as BTTF.
Then they got to the nazi sub and I was expecting a scene like Raiders when Indy hangs onto the sub. Instead, we got a generic chase scene.
Then when they had to bail out of the plane, "We're not sinking, we're craaaasssshinnnnggggg!!" LOL
"Huh, there seems to be something on here." LOL

You did get your Indiana Jones fix though. The scene with the plane was stolen/taken (depending on how you want to look at it) from Temple of Doom.

I thought that was a great episode. Homages to many movies in there.

There were many pause so I could stop laughing moments in here. The McCain pin was an "Oh ****" moment.

I just watched Duck Soup for the very first time last weekend, so that made it even better.

I assume the episode was originally intended to have been completed for last season but delayed by the WGA strike - in which case, I wonder what the original plan for the pin was.

Whats up with the way the show is animated now. It's looks very different from years past. Specifically the sequences during the air fight. It looked really good I thought

There was a lot of 3D stuff. It had to be computer aided. Not just during the dogfight either. It began with Stewie's time machine, and they just kept using it and using it.
I laughed out loud through this entire episode. Holy crap, this show is amazing. I cannot believe the lines they're willing to cross and then run from so you can't even see 'em anymore. Classic.
To be honest, I'm a little surprised we're even allowed to discuss it here. :p

Actually, 3D CGI is used in animation for quite a bit now - it's called cell-shading to give it the "cartoony" look and not the normal CGI-realism. But it's one and the same. A lot of it isn't done using traditional drawing techniques, but rather modeled in a computer and rendered.
This has been done in many "cartoon" shows for a few years now at least - Futurama used it quite extensively (and offers to show the wireframes during some of the features as well as various tricks they did to fake out some scenes).
The same effect is used in a few games to give them a cartoon look while using regular 3D APIs.

So can we get a list of all the references since there were so many, for instance I thought the mirror image thing was a reference to the movie with Lily Tomlin and Bette Middler about the twins (I haven't seen it since I was a kid though, so my memory is hazy), I had never heard of Duck Soup.

I like the scene with Rick Moranis. Was that him or does anyhone know?

Duck Soup is a classic Marx Brothers movie, which has been in the news lately because the main story revolves around a country that is going broke and needs to borrow money (20 million).
There is a "mirror" scene in it, it was made in 1933, so it may be the originator of the "mirror" joke.

Was there a 'Mirror Gag' in The Great Dictator? Even though it came out 7 years after Duck Soup, Charlie Chaplin did disguise himself as a Hitler-lookalike.

And there was a brief hint of the Indy theme as they bailed out of the plane in the raft.

The Terence Trent D'Arby reference (with "Wishing Well," radar pings) was great! Also loved the "99 Luftballoons," reference. "Assy nipples" (from "The Jerky Boys," was great, too.
Explaining why I was laughing at the above to my 22-year-old daughter was priceless.

What about when Stewie was thanking the fighter pilot for saving them. Friendly wave, then the pilot starts massaging his nipples, Stewie looks away awkwardly. LOL

Just to be sure everyone knows, that the guy who does the voice of Mort (and Horace the bartender) is Johnny B., from the Jerky Boys. Which is why the reference is even better.

It was funny, in college when Family had just been out for a year or two, we got into the Jerky Boys a lot.
Then I showed a few of my friends family and Mort and obviously loved the character :D

I was thinking this episode had a very Futurama vibe to it, due to those 3D sequences.
"C'mon, you can't put your hands back up after you put them down! Seriously?"
And how about the snappy musical number at the end? :D

What was the episode name?
For some reason my DTivo didn't record this one, even though it correctly recorded the two previous episodes this season.

While, as a 40 year old, I feel I should know it, what was the reference with the flying vikings (?s) during the plane scenes?

I loved the segment where the Nazi compares Mort Goldman with Art Garfunkel (who wasn't born until 2 years later :p)

I loved it because I got into the Jerky Boys back when they were just on bootleg tapes passed around, back in 1989-1990.

and I loved the line

The BTTF music was playing over their homage to BTTF using the crate as a skateboard.
